Day 2 at the @digitcentre PhD workshop @OsloMet One of the most popular sessions focused on different theoretical approaches to work and digitalisation, sparking a lively panel discussion where scholars from different fields humorously examined the quirks and limitations of their own disciplines. They shared candid insights on the joys and challenges of interdisciplinary and mixed-methods research, especially when collaborating across academic boundaries. Key takeaway: If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together. We also found valuable the conversation comparing the PhD experience in Norway versus the UK—a topic that spurred reflections on everything from research culture to academic expectations. Thank you to Profs Claartje ter Hoeven, Ines Wagner, @RogerSoraa, Janis Umblijs and organisers Digit Norway & @digitcentre.

The morning session got us thinking! Prof @RogerSoraa challenged us with insights on AI’s role in hiring from the @BIASProjectEU, sparking questions about bias and fairness and revealing just how often we don’t know why AI makes certain decisions. Then, Prof Ines Wagner took us further, exploring who truly benefits from the introduction of industrial robots on the shop floor — with a surprising gendered lens. On another note, we were surprised by the invitation to dinner for 4.30 pm which we thought must be a typo in the workshop agenda. Turns out, when in Oslo, you adjust your watch (and your appetite) to local time! Digit Norway & @digitcentre

Day 1 at the PhD Workshop on Digitalisation & the World of Work in Oslo! The day began with a keynote on digital microworking by Prof. Claartje ter Hoeven, followed by a powerful documentary sharing the voices of microworkers themselves. It was such an engaging way to connect research with real-world experiences – we were all drawn in, no matter our research focus. Thank you Digit Norway & @digitcentre

Quite a diverse crowd of ECRs from all over the world gathered here @UL. This was made possible by @SASE_Meeting in collaboration with @digitcentre , which brought us together to present our work and act as discussants for each other’s papers. All of us who were selected for the workshop were offered funding to travel here (incl accommodation) and attend the workshop & conference. I hope other ECRs (and final year PhD candidates) take note of this learning opportunity and consider applying next year. It won’t disappoint. Thanks to @SASE_Meeting, @digitcentre and all volunteers who made this possible.

Arrived in Limerick for the @SASE_Meeting. I'm quite impressed with the on-campus student villages at the @UL (so much green!) and the fact that all participants in the ECR workshop read my paper in advance, despite us coming from different disciplines. It was quite intense.

Such a pleasure listening to @EmilyYarrow1 speak – this time sharing how precarity shaped her ECR years, the experience of redundancy, learning how to say no. Thanks for speaking so frankly, we need more of this. Thanks also @NARTINetwork & CYGNA @Martyna_Sliwa for organising

At last week’s @CERIC_LUBS seminar we were treated to a provocative discussion on unsettling West-centrism in the study of professional service firms (Prof Boussebaa). Double treat, actually - I had forgotten how beautiful autumn can be on our campus @LeedsUniBSchool

@ScholzFrederike Congratulations, Frederike! I’m always happy to hear about your progress particularly since I’ve read your GWO paper (co-authored with Joanna) where you shared your struggles and vulnerabilities as ECRs. Wishing you new beginnings filled with fulfillment and peace of mind.
