To be honest, after seeing all the characters transformed into people of color, the whitening doesn't feel so bad. If you're okay with a lighter color going from a darker color, you shouldn't have a problem with the other way around.

As a Moroccan, and although Sumeru suffers from whitewashing and misrepresentation, I felt so so seen and happy to see the game had a Moroccan character & another Amazigh character. Most of the world doesn't even know our people exist it was genuinely such a nice revelation
For one, 96k signatures on the petition to change the whitewashing and boycott hoyo is not a failure. Second, most people are boycotting because they love this game and want to see it do better instead of just give up something that’s meant so much to them.

Additionally, going off Mualani, the Hydro Tribe should be based on Hawaiian culture. And the real Amina was a black Nigerian woman.
