11 years ago I read Lorrie Moore’s “Terrific Mother” for the first time. That led to a Phd exam shaped study of her work 8 years later, after which I spitefully swore I would never read her again but I think I was just angry at academia. This opening still stuns me every time.

@PhD_Genie I’ve been hired for a really nice full time teaching job and I’m absolutely 900% convinced I won’t cut it, the school will regret it, and I will make a hot dumpster fire wild mess off these poor unsuspecting students’ lives. I’m so tempted to back out.

Idk what mode of conflict resolution I should apply here but I’m so mad at my cat because I was having a rare good sleep and at 6 am he started banging on my closet door and ripped this luxury away from me 1.5 hours early.

One of my professors once said that the time we spend, perhaps just lying on the couch watching mindless tv while we are thinking about the work we need to do, is as valuable as the actual production of that work, the research, the writing, etc. I think about this often.

@Corvid189592286 @GummiPies My issue here isn’t with the mechanics of medicine but rather with medical billing. And insurance. Also my family and myself are from Europe. Even my parents are infuriated.
