@AlexNevard @docib @UTFO_OUFC Not many do (something like 10% in the last national audit I think). It’s a staffing issue - art lines = 2:1 nursing, which most ARCUs don’t have (despite a lot of effort!).

@docib @gmcuk @MedicalEducator @BMAstudents Disagree. Maybe in your hospital your NIV unit is lucky enough to have art lines, but national data shows very few are. Many can do ear lobe blood gases (but these are still pretty painful) but plenty still rely on ABGs. (Also everyone will end up calling me to do ABGs 😵💫!)

@jfdwolff @ProfMakris Looks like in that study they took the iron 30 minutes after a meal. It seems you need the empty stomach for the vitamin C to work.

@jfdwolff @DrNeilStone @JohnMcSorley10 I’m never quite sure why most guidelines don’t recommend levofloxacin in this scenario, which in my understanding has generally been shown to be equivalent to a beta lactam & macrolide.

@Jopo_dr Ordering one now! Just as one bruise disappears on my little ones forehead he gets another one.

@jane_f_r @A_cute_medic @Tjkey @krishnakolidoc Without those IV iron is a good option to rapidly replenish stores and almost guarantee a good response, which you might not get with oral iron. So I agree not just a pack of iron tablets!

@A_cute_medic @Tjkey @krishnakolidoc A bugbear of mine - colleagues often look at me like I’m mad for not transfusing someone with a Hb that starts with a 6. Transfusion handbook very clear

@techpriest @elinlowri Could that be achieved by better co-ordination is the argument though? E.g old trust care packages could be restarted by the nurse calling the agency. In my current trust if you’ve been admitted >72h, you need a ‘social worker assessment’ before care restarted - which takes days.
