in relation, I made a little chart. When we created Tiltify in 2014 there were huge trust issues in the creator space with flow of donations. We made sure that our design allowed funds to go directly to charities.

Most Softgiving streams and posts say "Sponsored by" or "Partnered with" SG. Which implies compensation from the Events model. So how did you think all the money was actually going to the charity? It just doesn't make sense and eveyone could not have been that naive.

If recruiters knew streamers were getting paid and you knew the HERO model gives no compensation, only the EVENTS model does (which take 50%), and you work there...where do you think the money for the giveways and payments are coming from?

Last year for the first time since it’s creation Twitch took over the charity space from us and would no longer allow us to run the charity stage or space. Personally I was pretty upset about it. —->

I do realize most of this is that Twitch wants to promote Twitch Charity. Ultimately it’s their space and I’m hopeful that in the future we’d be able to bring the Charity Plaza and stage back. ❤️💜

Creators & donors 🚨Lots of chat around where donations go. Regardless of what you think you know, double check the money you are asking people to donate is going to the charity you intend. Ideally DIRECTLY and not through 3rd parties. Concerns me how misled a lot of people are.

Good article below. Twitch has really lost its way and has such a great platform they need to find it. Even for us at Tiltify I used to talk to a Twitch execs often but a year ago Constance called us to end our relationship after 7 years.

I absolutely agree that streamers should never sign exclusive agreements.
@tiltify
would never ask for this from streamers or charities because it doesn’t benefit either. A single platform will never have every piece of tech for every fundraising instance. It’s also just weird.

It's models like this that erode the trust in giving to charity. There are so many issues with Matt's statements. Essentially his answer is YES we take 50% and we stand by it. The biggest issue to me is that he leverages the audiences of creators to sell his product.

Why would you make a streamer sign a contract to raise money for a charity??? And if you are doing so because you are receiving payment then beware of being put in the commercial fundraiser category and be required to register and pay fees in every state you solicit.
Charity streamers need to read the contracts they sign with a fundraising platform, esp if they receive payment for the charity stream.
Some have exclusivity clauses which force you into only using that platform- which it can then use to force a relationship with that charity.

The whole current debate, donations vs tipping is as silly now as it was last year, and the year before and before. The fact is what streamers take in exchange for their services of entertainment should I never be called a donation. You can argue but its still the facts.

If this is a legit contract it's completely insane and predatory imo. I've heard stories from charities anectodally for years but seeing this in writing blows me away. And creators are unknowing or knowingly promoting this to donors without this disclosure?!?!

Twitch has new Branded Content Guidelines.

- Burned-in video Ads are NOT allowed.
