Retired after a 35 year career in Agriculture. Detroit Tiger ⚾️ fan. Been to all 30 MLB parks. LLWS ⚾️ 🇨🇦 1972 team. Experiences not stuff. Tweets are my own.
Today retirement begins. It was a fabulous 35 yrs in Agriculture for me, 30 yrs with Monsanto, 1 with Bayer and 4 with Syngenta. I leave with no regrets, just full of gratitude, appreciation & a lifetime of memories from the 1000+ people I have met & worked with over the years ♥️
A year ago today, May 31, 2019, my 30 year career with Monsanto/Bayer came to an end. Tomorrow, June 1, 2020, a new contract opportunity for me with Syngenta begins. Doing something completely different in this next adventure. Never too old to learn, never too young to share.
Another new job starts tomorrow, Seed Agronomy and Technical Manager at Syngenta Canada. Lead NK Agronomists in Canada and provide in country leadership of Seed Trialing & Product Placement Scientist teams. NK Agronomists work in partnership with new 100% seed focused sales team.
Over 60 pounds lighter than 5 years ago with blood sugar wake up call. Walk 5 km a day, watch my carbs consumption (but not crazy like in early days) and monitor blood sugar daily to keep me honest. 4-6” off waistline, never felt better.
Big surprise to end the year/decade. Got a DM today from our favourite
@tigers
⚾️ Twitter page and as part of Tigers 12 Days of Giving contest from December I won a prize of throwing out a first pitch at a Tiger game in 2020! How cool 😎 is that!

Eric (Son

) officially graduates with his MSc. from U of Guelph at 2019 Convocation. I’m still a big fan of the academic ceremony and tradition of bestowing degrees on new graduates 🎓.

Houston sports weekend coming up but my boys surprised me with an early birthday (actual day is Sunday) gift. Got 3 tix for me & boys to go to Michigan & MSU 🏈 game on Nov 16 in Ann Arbor. They even FaceTime my Mom for cake and HB song! I have lots to be thankful for!

Great news, David was accepted, interviewed & had offers for grad school from Western & U of Ottawa. Chose Ottawa, starts in Sept, will be in Dept of Microbiology & Biochem in Faculty of Medicine. Working on virus human disease, research lab at Ottawa General Hospital

The simplest, most effective AND appreciated action leaders can take to address work/life balance of employees is to state ... “No sending company work emails on the weekend”. No work email is that urgent to send on the weekend, it can wait till Monday. The business will be fine
Back to work on Monday …… maybe

. Highly recommend a 2 week disconnect from work to recharge. Fabulous road trip to Charleston SC, Amelia Island & Panama City Beach, Fla. Best part was sharing every minute of the trip with someone special

Thinking about my Dad who passed away 35 yrs ago today on his kind of blue sky, sunshine day in St. Petersburg Fla. He had just turned 55, my Mom was only 49. Remembering what was for my first 27 yrs & what could have been for last 35. Held by his Mom, sitting in front of his Dad
My 60 pound tweet had a response from Twitter world I wasn’t expecting but much appreciated. Even
@n_web
would be impressed with impressions. Face is other area of weight change seen with before/after pics

Big thanks to
@RomeoErin
and
@Badsmoke23
for creating and hosting a virtual meeting for Monsanto Canada alumni. 90 people attended, every decade from 70’s represented. Jeopardy knowledge was top shelf, the pick and move from table to table to connect virtually was brilliant. 👏
And to celebrate

just found out my 83 yo Mom has her appointment on March 11 to get her first Pfizer vaccine shot in Windsor. She was so excited on the phone and honestly I’m so happy and relieved as well ❤️
On behalf of all our Technical Agronomists across North America I want to thank our retail, seed dealer and Seedsman partners and the 1000s of farm cooperators who take time to help us with our commercial field scale trials. Couldn’t do it without you!

Little League World Series from Williamsport PA. Played there for Canada team in 1972 from Windsor ON. Only 8 teams (4-US & 4-Int’l) back then. No team from Windsor has gone since as 🇨🇦champs. We finished 6th, 1 win, 2 loses. I’m back row 3rd from left, we are age 12.

After tour day remembered you have to give yourself a time out to enjoy the beauty around you so I did. First time in my nearly 61 years drove along hwy 21 on eastern shore of Lake Huron.

Some things just take priority like driving 300 km one way to take Mom for Pfizer vaccination. Well organized at WFCU Center (hockey rinks) in Windsor & very nice day. Shout out to women & me in pharma R & D who made the vaccines happen, remarkable achievements!

That’s a wrap from Dunedin. Thanks to Mike McGuire for the invite to visit. Dunedin is a charming town that is not overrun w development or tourists & they have ⚾️. Best kept secret in FL. Have a blank canvas personally & professionally so was good to see & consider.

Great day! Drive from Marathon to Key West (Lower Keys) was best but some hurricane Irma damage still visible. Key West is nice. Even toured Little White House that President Truman started.
This city kid’s quest for a career in Agriculture started 40 years ago as a summer student in 1981 working in soybean breeding at Ag Canada in Harrow ON. Returned next summer to work on bacterial speck of tomato & then started MSc in fall ‘82 on same disease at UoGuelph

When one of the parents of your childhood friend passes make an effort to attend the service. Even after 30-40 years your unexpected presence will matter to you and more importantly to your childhood friend. Something I just experienced with a friend from Rankin Ave
