I say this as a former White House correspondent during the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. Lengthy live takes aren't great in the best of times--unless they're major presidential addresses--but when there's so much misinformation it's no service to viewers/listeners.

Just over 115 years ago, my father's side of my family was driven from what's now Belarus, specifically Pinsk (not the more famous Minsk). Relatives who remained perished--perhaps in camps or Einsatzgruppen. We don't know. Here's hoping Belarus has a democratic, tolerant future.
