⚠️Conservatives lose control of council which covers Michael Gove's seat. That was just one of the great Lib Dem by-election results last night, gaining principal authority seats from both Conservatives and indies. and a town council seat from Labour too #winninghere.

Last night's Conservative party political broadcast had:. 2 photos of @Keir_Starmer .2 photos of @EdwardJDavey .0 photos of @BorisJohnson . It's almost as if CCHQ doesn't think the PM is a vote winner any more. .

It's 99 years since the Conservatives last lost a Parliamentary election in the Tiverton and Honiton area, so the fact that there's even talk of a possible Lib Dem is a huge tribute to @RichardFoordLD, @simondrage and the thousands who have helped.

At this rate, there will be more @PippaCrerar scoops about parties than parties I've ever been to.
EXCL: Yet another lockdown-buster - our @REWearmouth reveals Grant Shapps's staff "boozed and danced" at gathering last Christmas. DfT has apologised for "inappropriate" event - of which Transport Sec says he was unaware - and "error of judgement".

That sound is a herd of Liberal Democrats rushing to check train times to Bedfordshire.
I have today informed the chief whip that I am standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, with immediate effect. It has been an honour to serve as the MP for such a wonderful constituency but it is now time for another to take the reins.

An important, over-looked statistic about the local elections: the seats up this time were, on average, more Leave-voting than the rest of the country. And even on this territory the Conservatives did so badly. .
If you thought this week's local elections were grim for the Tories, just remember: this time they were defending a previous already bad result and yet still managed to fall a long way. Next year they'll be defending some very good results. .

Poppies should be about the people whose sacrifices we are remembering, not about the people who are wearing them.
Proud to be the first MP to wear a poppy this year in the House of Commons. it’s never too early to show support for this vital campaign to thank those who have served King, Queen, Country and Commonwealth, as we begin our annual period of national remembrance.🇬🇧

And with that, there are now ZERO Conservative councillors on Richmond Council!.
Hampton North (Richmond upon Thames) council by-election result:. LDEM: 53.2% (+19.9).CON: 34.8% (+11.2).LAB: 7.2% (-1.1).GRN: 4.8% (-16.2). Votes cast: 2,213. Liberal Democrat GAIN from Conservative. *Defending Con seat was third placed of three-member ward in 2022. Top three.

Or you could. give the money to the councils that already existed and are democratically accountable, rather than creating yet another set of new bureaucracies?. One again, for all the talk of disliking red tape, the Conservatives want to create yet more red tape.
People should decide what happens to their towns. Each town will receive a new Town Board as part of PM @RishiSunak’s long-term plan for towns. Bringing together community groups, businesses and local authorities to make sure the decisions are the right ones for local people.
