I think the goth subculture and alternative subcultures in general have become extremely materialistic in the past 10 years. I love Demonia and Killstar, but you don’t NEED to buy from big brands. Goth was born from DIY, they didn’t have companies that catered to goths in the 80s

Goth is a music based subculture that is also NOT apolitical. It stemmed from punk. It’s not a “belief system” exactly, but having conservative morals as an alternative person is like I said earlier, oxymoronic. It’s not a religion, but sure, put words in my mouth! 😐

Am I the only one who really doesn’t mind if people show up to the goth club not looking goth at all/still in their work clothes, etc.? I’ve seen people go all out at my local goth night, I’ve also seen blue jeans and a t shirt or a button up - we are there for the music.
is it really gatekeeping to simply say it’s a little lame to not be on theme for a themed event? is that really gatekeeping?

Normalize not sleeping with or dating men with p*rn brainrot/add*ction. I’m serious. I think if a man (or woman, or whomever, but it’s statistically mainly men) struggles with p*rn add*ction, they need to overcome that and work on themselves. It’s unfair to their partner.

I’m a firm believer that some gatekeeping is necessary, to a reasonable degree. Of course goth is not solely music based, it’s always been inherently political and anti bigotry but that appears to have sadly gotten lost - I’ve had to deal with a lot of conservative “goths”.
goths need to invent a new way to gatekeep cuz "as long as you listen to the music" isnt working like it used to

There are certainly mosh pit rules/etiquette. Maybe don’t speak on something you clearly know nothing about? 8 people passing away in a mosh pit is not normal. At most metal/punk/hardcore, etc. shows 2+ people help you up if you fall! Do not normalize injury in pits!!
