Short-term outcomes from the ‘Watch and Wait’ (WoW) study: prospective cohort study ➡️ This prospective multicentre observational study included patients who, following neoadjuvant treatment for rectal cancer, obtained a clinical complete response and were followed in a watch-and-wait programme. Two hundred and eleven patients were included, and this article presents short-term outcomes at 6 months. Thirty-three patients (16%) developed local regrowth, and 31 patients were salvaged with curative intent. 👏👏👏Daniel Rydbeck, Najia Azhar, Lennart Blomqvist, Abbas Chabok, Joakim Folkesson, Anders Gerdin, Linda Hermus, Peter Matthiessen, @Annamartling, Per J Nilsson, @evaangenete

@skdh is a brilliant science communicator. She’s the external doctorate examiner you wish you had/ knowledgeable, fair and the driest sense of humour. Watch this and imagine her explaining it to the not so new incumbent of the White House.
In which I worry that we might be seeing a new ice age in middle and northern Europe. And that wouldn't just affect Europe.

An old thread- but perceptive as it gets.
ON CLASSICAL LANGUAGES & MULTIGLOSSIA My interpretation of Kripke-Wittgenstein: a language must have temporal & spatial consistency (memory is imperfect so your language cannot be private). Classical languages have a property: unlike dialects, they don't vary across time. 1/n

😷#RCT: Reinforced tension-line suture after laparotomy: early results of the Rein4CeTo1 randomized clinical trial ➡️ 🏥In this study of 134 patients who had midline abdominal closure, adding a reinforcing suture reduced the rate of incisional hernia on CT imaging after one year: 6 versus 21 per cent, P=0.014. 💬Reinforcing is potentially valuable, but the study closed early. - @JJEarnshaw 🙌@BJSurgery #LeadingSurgicalEducation
