Starting a Job Shop in India is a great entry into manufacturing ngl
It’s quite simple. Because of Xometry and ‘networks’ are driving everything CNC machining in a race to the bottom. CAD files are flying around the world at a staggering rate. India, China, Vietnam, Mexico etc. IP bleed is off the charts. It comes down to spindle hourly rates. Here is a rough take on rates recently from our research. Same basic milling operation and often Haas machines. Nothing too sophisticated needing to be machined. 1. US hourly - $125 to $160 2. India hourly - $45 to $60 3. China hourly - $25 to $50 India and China work crazy hours compared to the U.S. so machining is ‘quicker’. Both slap it in FedEx or UPS and have parts in any major metro in 2 days. Crazy good customer service if you deal direct. Crucially - Material input costs way less than US supply-chain. India lower than U.S. and China crazy low compared to the U.S. and India. To a buyer incentivized to just get the lowest price and have no clue who the thousands of shops behind a Xometry what do they care. No wonder protolabs has to run dual track strategy and may have staled. (If they have).
