Methadone is the only medication for which one must travel for miles every day, stand in line, give a urine sample in front of staff, and swallow the medication while being monitored. There's simply no evidence to justify these strict conditions when the alternative is a potentially fatal overdose. Its stigmatizing, inhumane and shows the prejudice towards people with substance disorder.

@ferrisbuhler81 We also stack pretty high on suicide rate compared to most European countries (i am sure it’s not big pharma funded).

Largest study to date reveals detectable naloxone metabolites in patient taking buprenorphine -naloxone combo, questioning the previous claims that naloxone combination is minimal. Its likely that it may contribute to side-effects for some patients, and switching to injectable versions maybe the only option.

@NTFabiano If we look at obesity medicine guidelines, failed at attempts at lifestyle modification is one of the criteria and these medications are never the first line. Unfortunately most patients who actually need them , and benefit from them are unable to get them because of insurance.

@sanilrege @psycheureka I just find it interesting that people most skeptic of vaccine/drugs are completely okay to use something like MB so casually knowing it has no benefits and tons of side effects.

“When initiating or switching antipsychotic medications, clinicians should also prescribe metformin to most patients—including adolescents and young adults or those with high body mass index or other cardiometabolic risks—to prevent weight gain.”
The guideline recommends starting metformin along with a new antipsychotic or when switching from one antipsychotic to another.
