Yikes for commentd. People don't realise the alternative to this is walking... Out of a chinook, or from the back of an MSVS, or humping kit miles & miles. Survivability will be provided by increased mobility. Armour would negate much of the mobility they need in the light role.

Just out for a rip 🛻 Check out what a couple of the first troops to train on the LTV have to say about the newest addition to the Light Infantry.

@FuckOffBezos The $$$ difference isn't even that big between armoured PMVs or unprotected utility vehicles. IMHO it is folly to use the unarmoured w/ AoA kit approach for the CAF.

@FuckOffBezos & yeah. Something like the Roshel pickup, with at least a .50cal (preferably bigger) in a modern turret or RWS, with a UAS & a couple loitering munitions in the back. That is what I'm thinking is pretty close to an ideal (wheeled) light Cavalry vehicle.

@FuckOffBezos We need Protected Mobility Vehicles & need large numbers. As much as some on Twitter (&CAF) dismiss smaller AFVs, LAV6s & tanks will never be numerous enough to take on all battlefield & combat tasks. & there are many tasks for which smaller/lighter PMVs are just better suited.

@FuckOffBezos Yup & then we have the stupid fixation on buying unarmoured platforms +AoA kits for deployments - to save $$$. But it often requires significant engineering effort & creates hazards & program risks... & results in a less deployable fleet (which I don't think saves $$$ in the end)

@FuckOffBezos I believe Roshel, Terradyne, Inkas etc have viable Gwagon replacements. Except Roshel, none has the production throughput that would be required for a procurement like LUV. & then we ask for something already in service in NATO... Which makes it difficult for domestic players.

@cerich67 I'm talking about us combatting a non-conventional enemy (say, for the sake of argument, the Oathkeepers or similar schmucks). So it would be patrols, cordon&search, working with local authorities, convoy escort & offensive actions against small light infantry elements.

@JoAnneW63777667 I'd rather stay home & just leave them to mess up their own house... No need to it for them, buly the look of it.

@ReiverHall Exactly! It happens to be something that is very easy to generate in a Reserve training ex - OPFOR is dirt simple & there are ways to simulate (or heck, invite) local authorities to increase value at all levels. That it is becoming a probable threat scenario is the scary part.

@Cain Sure, if it was a conventional conflict. I'm thinking of something more in the "grey zone", where some militias take the propaganda a little too seriously & get some stupid ideas about coming to Canada...

@Lucvend @jtquilliam Yes, those are all valid points greatly missed by my oversimplification! Courses forecasted in Q1 tie up a lit of funds (FRs or committed). If they get cancelled for whatever reason (or heck, a new un-forecasted course gets added in) it can play havoc on a unit budget.

@RobertDocBacon Heck, the video even shows it acting as an APC (another AFV type!) to deliver an infantry section into an assault. Yes, the Senator is on the lighter & cheaper end of the spectrum relative to say a CV90... But it is a far cry from just a truck...
