I am one of four student journalists on

’s hockey beat. We have covered and traveled to every single
@umichhockey
game this season.
But when we tried to get credentials for the Frozen Four, we were told by
@NCAAIceHockey
that there were only two available seats. 🧵
UPDATE: We have officially been granted two more credentials by the NCAA! Another HUGE thank you to every single person that has supported us and advocated for us. We are so incredibly grateful and we couldn’t have done it without you! See you in St. Paul!

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined getting to design a cover for a Michigan football National Championship.
Not only that, but I got to do it in the car — on my way to the airport after having the experience of a lifetime in Houston.
Pick up a copy tomorrow!
J.J. McCarthy on wearing the smiley face in place of his number:
“With all this added pressure that comes with being a franchise quarterback and being drafted and all that, it just brings me back to the roots of hey, this is just a game at the end of the day.”
This has been an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience for us as student journalists, so we wanted to bring light to it and ask the
@NCAA
to reevaluate.
But we were still denied. For the past two years, all four of the men on the hockey beat got credentials. This year, only two of the four women got credentials. 🧵
This is a huge deal to us because we’re passionate about our jobs and we just want the opportunity to do them — especially at a Frozen Four.
We’re now forced to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket to buy tickets, and two of us won’t be able to access postgame pressers. 🧵
Totally fine, we understand the space limitations and two of us can stand elsewhere. We can steer clear of the press box and figure it out, we just need the credentials to get in the door and access postgame media. We’ve done this at a number of away games this year. 🧵
Anyone who’s been around me in the newsroom recently knows I’ve been dying to design a Star Wars-inspired page.
Well, it finally happened, and to make it even more special — my story is also featured! Incredibly excited about this one for
@umichhockey
’s win over MSU 🎨✍️
With a redemption victory over
@MSU_Hockey
in the
@ncaa
Regional Final,
@umichhockey
has advanced to the Frozen Four for the third consecutive year.
This week’s

cover: The Empire Strikes Back.
Thank you so much to everyone for the outpouring of support! We are incredibly grateful and appreciative. As of now, we haven't heard anything new on this matter from
@NCAA
@NCAAIceHockey
.

For
@umichhockey
senior defenseman Steven Holtz, his path to Ann Arbor had its fair share of rockiness. But he kept choosing hockey, even when it seemed like hockey wasn't choosing him.

With a monster third period, Michigan beats North Dakota and will face Michigan State (for the sixth time this season) in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal this Sunday.
Michigan and Ferris State are trading goaltenders — in addition to Noah West transferring from the Wolverines to the Bulldogs, Logan Stein just announced he’s coming to Ann Arbor as a grad transfer after four seasons at Ferris State.
This weekend,
@umichhockey
heads to Columbus to take on Ohio State for their second rivalry series.
It's extra special for Tyler Duke, returning to his former home now as a villain.

Professional update: I’m so excited to be joining Warner Bros. Discovery this summer as a TNT Sports Ad Sales Marketing intern in New York City! I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started in June!
#WBDLife
William Whitelaw announces his transfer to
@umichhockey
after spending his freshman season at Wisconsin. He's a huge pickup who will bring high-level scoring to a forward group that's shaping up to be pretty dangerous next season.
Kate Clarke and Alyssa Crockett's journeys have brought them together again at
@umichwbball
— and along the way, they've become teammates, friends, rivals, roommates, and even "cousins."
On their dynamic relationship, my first feature for

For any Michigan fans and/or student journalism supporters, we at The Daily are creating a commemorative coffee table book about the Michigan football team's National Championship! Check it out, it's super cool and completely student-made!
Being one of the four women on this year's
@theblockm
hockey beat has been nothing short of incredible. I couldn't be more grateful for the friendship we've built, and it's not over yet!
On the last day of Women's Month, we wrote about our experience:
Jacob Fowler became a brick wall last night, but Jake Barczewski wasn’t afforded the same opportunity. As the Wolverines fell short in front of him, Barczewski couldn’t stand on his head to keep them in it.
My final story on
@theblockm

Bittersweet moment tonight covering our last
@umichhockey
game at Yost. Hard to put into words how incredible it’s been writing about this team with
@RekhaLeonard
,
@annamillerpdx
, and
@Ellie220066
(she made an account!). Can’t wait for the rest of the season!
The parallels between this
@umichhockey
season and that of 1998 are unmistakable, but there's one outstanding — winning a National Championship.
On the Wolverines' mindset, stories from those '98ers and the trophy in their locker room (with 1998 photos!):
This is the same year that Michigan hockey lost to Michigan State four times, lost in the Big Ten Championship, and had a Hobey Baker winner and Frozen Four loss the season before. Oh, and the Wolverines went on to win a national championship…
Ever since I started designing SportsMondays for TMD, I hoped I’d be able to design my own story one day. Well, that day has come and I got to design yesterday’s SportsMonday with one of my own stories! Super excited for more to come and so happy to share the page with
@abst16
!
Michigan got outmuscled for most of last night’s game.
But when push came to shove (no pun intended), it didn’t matter. The Wolverines found a way to handle it, leaning on their speed and skill to punch a ticket to the Regional Final.
For
@theblockm

Though it might not be obvious right away, Jacob Truscott’s ability to listen and learn has shaped him as a quiet leader who others can’t speak enough about.

Tonight, Michigan and Michigan State are renewing their rivalry for the sixth time this season, with the stakes as high as they can get.
Catch up on the in-state rivals’ recent history heading into their NCAA Regional Final:
Midway through the second period and there are still tons of empty seats here at Centene Community Ice Center, which seats about 2,500. These teams are used to bringing out more than double that number. More open seats around the arena, but this section is one of the most empty.
This is the same year that Michigan hockey lost to Michigan State four times, lost in the Big Ten Championship, and had a Hobey Baker winner and Frozen Four loss the season before. Oh, and the Wolverines went on to win a national championship…

Last night’s Big Ten Tournament win over Minnesota was extra special for
@umichhockey
goaltender Jake Barczewski, whose season at Canisius last year was ended by the Golden Gophers.
On Barczewski’s performance and getting revenge, for
@theblockm

Jake Barczewski’s dad grew up playing street hockey in St. Louis. He made sure his son was able to get on the ice. This weekend, Jake is going back home to play for an NCAA title.

In yesterday’s Spring Game,
@umichfootball
’s wide receivers showed early development alongside a need for more depth.
Read more about new receiver Kendrick Bell and the status of Michigan’s wideouts:
This tweet isn’t about Kim Mulkey, but watch her shove the ref in the background (which she did again later) after Caitlin Clark hit the 3. Is that not … the definition of a technical foul?
Immediately after a big hit into the boards and ensuing cheers from the Ohio State fans, former Buckeye Tyler Duke silences the crowd and puts Michigan on the board first.
Seamus Casey, who left Friday’s game after one period with an apparent injury, is not dressing for today’s NCAA Regional Final against Michigan State. Huge loss for Michigan in a rivalry matchup with everything on the line.
Lines for tonight’s
@umichhockey
game against
@UMassHockey
in Amherst. McGroarty and Brindley join Nazar on the top line, while Casey slots in with Truscott as Tyler Duke sits out after heading to the locker room early with an apparent injury last weekend.
Lines for tonight’s
@umichhockey
game against
@PennStateMHKY
. Michigan’s offensive lines look to be in numerical order, so it’s likely that they’ll be shuffled throughout the game with McGroarty and Estapa out after suffering injuries yesterday.
Here at Centene Community Ice Center right outside of St. Louis as Michigan and North Dakota take the ice for their opening NCAA Tournament matchup! Puck drop in about 30 minutes.
Didn’t see Seamus Casey on the bench at the end of the second period for Michigan. Not sure when he might’ve headed to the locker room, but would be a huge loss for the Wolverines if he can’t skate in the third.
Since I first joined TMD sports, Abbie made me feel so incredibly welcome and appreciated. In her column, she talks about the community created by Women's Month — and she deserves a ton of recognition for being such a huge part of that community. Read her story below!!

Lines for tonight’s
@umichhockey
game against Minnesota. Big one for the Wolverines after getting swept at Wisconsin last weekend. Some pretty significant shuffling following Hallum’s season-ending injury and with Steven Holtz not dressing.
Jackson Hallum is out for the season after a hard hit to the knee in last weekend’s series against Wisconsin, according to
@umichhockey
coach Brandon Naurato.
Lines for
@umichhockey
’s second game of this weekend’s Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series against
@NDHockey
. Garrett Schifsky moves up to the top line after a three-point performance yesterday, and the Wolverines will try for a sweep tonight to advance to the semifinals.
The second Wolverine to get drafted back-to-back in the
#NFLDraft
following a former teammate, Roman Wilson is headed to Pittsburgh for his next adventure as a Steeler:
Lines for
@umichhockey
’s final regular season game at Yost against
@NDHockey
. Schifsky slots into the top line, switching with Brindley, while Pletzke replaces Rowe on the fourth line. Andrew Albano will dress for his first game of the season on Senior Night.
Yesterday, as three Wolverines went down with injuries, Michigan figured out how to harness its emotions to hold on for the win. Tonight, in what’ll likely be another emotional and tense matchup, the Wolverines will need to do the same to secure the sweep.
Didn’t see Seamus Casey on the bench at the end of the second period for Michigan. Not sure when he might’ve headed to the locker room, but would be a huge loss for the Wolverines if he can’t skate in the third.
Weird goal for the Wolverines, but they’ll take it. Dylan Duke had the shot but couldn’t get enough on it. Looked to deflect in off Schifsky. 2-2 early in the third
