Are any Tongan or Pasifika Fashion Historians in general be able to tell me a bit more about the Tu’i Tonga headpieces? What were they made of?? Some illustrations look like feathers, others like a stiff tapa cloth. This is my 3am question x

Just lst night on my explore page came across someone who sells AI art to their community, honestly kinda trickin them. claimin ‘preserving culture’ and did the whole woven threads and tapestry speech, but the patterns on the ofus that should hold storytelling were AI mish mash?!
Not to be a hater but one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing people use our cultures for clout. It’s easy to see because there’s no connection to community or culture and just chasing views and likes. The community can recognise those who move genuinely and authentically!

I remember growing up one of my aunties had this set up at hers, ngl I hated going out to the back toileti in the yard as it was in an old empty concrete septic tank. But it was just what you did, I don’t think anyone even told me the rule, all my boy cousins just did it too 🤷🏻♂️
it’s so interesting to me that fk’apa’apa (respect) is so important in the Tongan culture that households often have seperate bathrooms. e.g., a shower + toilet in the house for the girls and a shower + toilet outside/at the back for the boys.
