π Today's #BlackHistoryMonth Lesson: Rosina Tucker (1881β1987) was a fearless labor organizer and civil rights activist who played a pivotal role in advocating for Black railway workers. As the wife of a Pullman porter, she saw firsthand the struggles of these workersβlong hours, low pay, and racial discrimination. In the 1920s, she helped organize the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP), the first Black-led labor union to secure a contract with a major U.S. corporation. Her impact lives on in todayβs fight for workersβ rights and racial justice! βπΎπ₯ @32BJSEIU We Don't Playπ #LaborHistory #BlackWorkersMatter

βI'm only able to afford my medications I can't afford the copays for my appointments, and there's a lot of them that I need to go to so it's been frustrating I mean, we work for something that's connected the hospitals, I think we should be able to have a more affordable healthcare,β RIGHT NOW: Over 400 Pitt cleaners, housekeepers, & grounds crew are fighting for a new contract. "We are just getting further behind and what really gets me about it is immediately post pandemic I have management telling us "hey we can't hire anybody, nobody wants to work". Maybe nobody wants to work because you're not paying enough we need a contract that keeps up with inflation!" π Today's #BlackHistoryMonth Lesson: On this day 56 years ago, 1,300 Black sanitation workers in Memphis began a strike to demand better working conditions and higher pay. A couple of weeks before the strike, workersβ dissatisfaction reached new heights when two men, Echol Cole and Robert Walker, were gruesomely killed while on the job. Cole and Walker had taken shelter from rain in the back of their truck when it malfunctioned and both men were crushed to death. @32BJSEIU We Don't Play!π

π Today's #BlackHistoryMonth Lesson: A. Philip Randolph was a fearless labor leader and civil rights activist who transformed the fight for economic justice in America. In 1925, he founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first Black-led union to secure a major labor contract, proving that organized workersβno matter their raceβcould demand dignity and fair wages. His activism didnβt stop there. Randolph was a key organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, where Dr. King delivered his βI Have a Dreamβ speech. His leadership laid the foundation for labor rights, desegregation, and economic equality, making him one of the most influential figures in American history. His legacy reminds us: "Freedom is never granted; it is won." πͺπΎ @32BJSEIU We Don't Playπ #LaborHistory #BlackLaborLeaders
