As an institution of higher education, Pitt acts as a beacon, elucidating the way forward for society and lighting a path toward a better future. As such, we strongly denounce the seditious and violent acts taken today to undermine the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
This year’s ranking positions the University of Pittsburgh as a top-20 public school. It’s a powerful testament to our students, faculty and staff and a clear signal that our trajectory as a world leader in learning, teaching and research is still—undeniably—on the rise.
We are deeply saddened by today's shocking tragedy at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill. These acts of hate and terror contradict every value that we hold dear at the University of Pittsburgh, and we stand united with all of those impacted.
I am thrilled
@Pitt_LykeAD
will continue to push our athletics programs to new heights—and spur positive change for our student-athletes and our university community—for years to come!

The painful truth is that persistent and systemic racism continues to fuel a deep injustice toward Black Americans. It’s time to turn the lens inward and consider Pitt’s role in perpetuating unfair structures and systems:

On Monday, our Pitt family will gather at noon on the Cathedral lawn to pay tribute to the victims of the Tree of Life massacre. Join us in support of our community.
Even within the darkest moments of tragedy, there is a way forward. Even the smallest acts of solidarity can remind the rest of the world, our city, and our community that we can come together, support one another and collectively reject hatred:
Today is an opportunity to stand in support of those who are still hurting, in appreciation for those who responded, and in solidarity with the Jewish community. Those in need of support can visit .

Christchurch: Though half a world away, Pittsburgh knows this heartbreak. It’s an all-too-familiar story of hate exacted as a fresh wound upon a new place—in two new centers of worship.
Yesterday, we proudly stood with countless universities in solidarity with international students. Our legal brief called recent ICE policy for what it was: harmful, arbitrary and wrong. Today, the government rescinded their decision.

As a nod to all that we've accomplished together this year, let's look back at our University community's many great milestones earned in 2017.
Have a safe, healthy winter break — and enjoy!

Tom was a profoundly gifted surgeon, visionary researcher and prolific scholar. He not only advanced medicine and saved countless lives, he taught his students to do the same. We’re humbled that a piece of his legacy will live on forever right here on the campus he deeply loved.
On behalf of Panther nation: Thank you,
@AaronDonald97
, for your incredible generosity—and for making the University of Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald Football Performance Center a reality.

Joan T.A. Gabel, president and chief executive of the University of Minnesota System and Twin Cities campus, has been named 19th chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh.
Gabel will be the first woman to lead the University since its founding in 1787.
The Joynes family took a break from moving in their newest Panther—Anaya—to attend today's Legacy Luncheon. Her parents, Bridget and Alan, met while studying at Pitt and graduated in 1992. It’s always great to meet families whose Pitt roots run deep!

As a University, we are committed to realizing a world where cost does not prevent a student from pursuing a Pitt degree. Today's launch of the Pitt Success Pell Match Program is another significant step in that direction:
