@BradChadlington Working in BTC could be an absolute run at the right time and place. Not sure we’re there quite yet, but gets me thinking. Definitely opportunities in blockchain related startups but it’s such an up and down market. Had some former coworkers go to Circle but moved on since.

Starting to think about startup growth from different angles and curious about experiences working with VC vs PE backed companies. Has to be glaring strategy differences right? Shorter exit ramp and focus on profitability with PE expected. Would also anticipate more strategic forecast and hiring plans vs the ‘grow at any cost’ game. I’ve been on VC side and seen that play out in different scenarios. Less familiar with PE. What other factors come to mind?

@cdankowski Love this thread and added to my reading list! The “today I will multiply my value” line is so good, as I often compare enterprise sales to building a 5k piece puzzle. Huge time and mental commitment lining up pieces until finally the pic / deal is done.

@BrianLaManna_ Great points, all accurate. Might add career development as subset of learning. Important to see people blazing a path ahead of you, sitting in seats and earning the kind of lifestyle you dream of. When you don’t have that, and not seeing peers promoted, it can be tough.

Keep posting an build credibility / connections. Find leaders in the space you’re targeting, follow them and engage with their content. Filter a search for your market (by title, geography, industry, keywords, etc.). Using Sales Navigator you can even see who from the filtered list has posted in last 30 days. Interact, follow them, DM and connect once you’ve built some level of familiarity. You will start seeing more engagement once you contribute and put yourself out there first.

@SparkingFIRENC Still not a great look imo. Hiring managers in sales (at least up to VP level roles) frown upon breaks. Earlier in your career, maybe not as impactful. But if you’re trying to junk back in after a pause, that’s when I’ve seen candidates struggle.

@pipelineclub100 Easy to develop bad habits, much harder to commit and stay healthy. Probably why it’s so easy to spot one way or the other.

Once you get momentum in anything it becomes exponentially more fun. Building a side business is difficult and taxing. Until you start seeing returns. Practicing your short game can be draining. Until you see handicap lower. Applying for jobs feels meaningless. Until you land where you’re meant to be. Writing gets boring and repetitive. Until you’re in a groove and it’s routine. Exercising seems pointless. Until your mental and physical health is aligned. Sharing because we have to start somewhere and build momentum. Just getting to the ‘fun’ in many of these areas that have been a focus for months. Still need to put in hours for the upcoming golf season. That one’s a work in progress! ⛳️
