my partner told me one of the top journals in nanotech is just called "small." meanwhile were stuck with garbage mouthfuls like "the quarterly journal of economics." shouldnt we at least have "money"?
im at the evidentiary hearing against graduate students. im at the graduate student appreciation week. im at the combination evidentiary hearing against graduate students and graduate student appreciation week
lets be clear that
@umich
is cancelling a student body vote because they disagree with the content, not because of "election integrity." outside spending groups have raised tens of thousands of dollars to influence a fucking college election, and craven administrators caved

is ready, willing and eager to bargain with GEO over a compensation plan, but it requires movement from both sides. Real bargaining requires real compromise.
BREAKING: Police have flooded the encampment and given the warning, banging tents as they entered.
Students have locked arms around the flagpole, signaling their willingness to be arrested.
The crowd, several of whom are in tears, have begun singing “We shall not be moved.”
my suggestion for incoming PhD students this summer is to learn how to code directly in the terminal window. it has no concrete benefits but it looks cool as hell.

JUST IN: Faculty members of NYU walk onto the encampment and begin forming a human chain. Palestine protesters erupted in cheers! Chanting “keep us safe! Keep us safe”. It now dawns the hour of this “unspecified response” by NYU admin but staff appears to oppose it.

using a sophisticated numerical method i cannot disclose for legal reasons i have calculated that most university administrators work 0 hours a week and have an infinite wage, which is approximately 4-5x the ann arbor living wage. care to comment?
well.

when
@geo3550
went on strike last year, i learned that grade strikes r cool. universities need final grades for admin processes, and delaying grades is costly. the costs to students of receiving a *delayed* grade is (generally) small in comparison to the admin costs it generates!
BREAKING: A professor at UNC Chapel Hill is apparently going to withhold grades from students if the administration does not unsuspend students who were part of protests last week

i know a bunch of econ freshies are about to start math camp, so here's my tip: get really good at drawing mu. it's definitely the coolest one. dont worry about xi or zeta, no one cares about those, but we will judge you based on your mu.
i am pleased to announce that i am beyond thrilled to be humbled to become honored with this feeling of gratitude, which i attribute to being blessed with having begun a period of great thankfulness, which i am further pleased to announced
economists have been largely silent on the bloodshed in gaza, a reprehensible position for social scientists. will they speak up now that their graduate students are being arrested and expelled?
@Princeton
Hassan Sayed, a fifth year PhD candidate in economics, and Achinthya Sivalingan, a SPIA MPA second year, have been arrested, evicted, and permanently banned from the

campus, thereby preventing them from finishing their degrees.
I am thinking about how the UM School of Information refused to punish advisory board member Carin Ehrenberg who was caught on video verbally assaulting Arab and Muslim students on campus
i understand some people dont like this sort of tactic. be sure to ask yourself how you feel about the tactics of much more powerful people like acker. how do you feel about electeds ignoring majority opinions? about refusing to meet with constituents? about cancelling elections?
not as much attention on state schools, but this is my hometown university, where many family and friends went to school. its coming to your hometown too.
VIDEO THREAD: Police deployed tear gas this afternoon against a circle of University of South Florida students attempting to set up a pro-Palestine encampment on their campus, their second time trying in two days.

jordan acker: i want you to think clearly about why the actions of the university you run surrounding the war in gaza makes muslim students feel like there is an increase in islamophobia on campus.
Acker's claim that the "offer on the table" is $39k is misleading. Most of that raise is not covered by our contract. Pay out of the contract means we can't negotiate over it, and we have no recourse when it disappears. That's not a raise--it's union busting!
University of Michigan is cutting sections of gen ed courses, reducing grad instructor positions, and paying teachers in Dearborn & Flint less because of budget concerns, but there's plenty of money for campus cops surveilling students to leave their vehicles running empty?
it is a good idea to hold leaders accountable when they have overseen major, long run failures. this is not controversial in most leadership roles, and dem leadership should be no different

what? the tweet you are quoting is explicitly making the case that your behavior as a politician, not your religion, is the source of their frustration with you.
while i disagree with sending police to maim my fellow students, these students also refused to adopt my bizarre list of extremely specific language requirements for their signs and slogans, so i simply cannot say who is more to blame. ive never been outside by the way
Antisemitic hate on college campuses is unacceptable. I am deeply concerned by what is happening at Columbia University. In November 2023, our Office for Civil Rights opened an investigation of Columbia involving Title VI.
the economy is very simple. some people (geniuses) know how to turn dirt into vegetable. others like me (idiots) have to look at bad computer game all day so we can trade computer points for vegetable. some people (cheaters) have too many computer points
unbelievable that an

going to make some version of this joke one or two times a week until this strike is over. university can end this suffering at any point, balls in their court
HR says they heard our testimonials and our side, so they inched their compensation proposal closer to our ask for a living wage - with "generous" salary increases of 3%, 2.5%, and 2% for each consecutive year of our contract. Does this counterproposal address your concerns?
