4 yrs ago i had an idea. Wrote a book round it, the book was shit. Turned the idea to song, nah. Tried iambic pentameter, was... ok. Left it alone, spoke of it rarely. Then, one slow night it crept up on me & became itself. Just heard it'll be anthologised by my fave publishers.

There's a cobbler in Hebron (in Palestine's West Bank) who adds a pinch of dirt from the nearby hills to the soles of the shoes he makes. So that no matter where his customers go they will always walk upon the soil of their homeland. That felt like knowledge worth sharing.

I was moving house yesterday and my friend was packing my Saadawi framed portrait. I told her “don’t break her”, she replied “nothing can break her”. An hour later we sat down for lunch and I opened my phone and Razmig, the man who printed the portrait for me had sent the news 💔
