pocketpair, palworld's developers, are practically built on copying/plagiarizing currently popular games/tropes, and palworld is not the first. from a quality standpoint, pocketpair has a history of leaving games in buggy, unfinished states, all while charging (1/7)

let's talk about plagiarism. yes, palworld steals pokemon designs. some say this is okay since pokemon is owned by a MASSIVE company - however, this is the work of individuals being stolen, not the work of sleazy higherups. there are better ways to send a message. (3/7)

a fairly high pricepoint. pocketpair's ceo, at the same time, is fascinated with ai technologies and using them to bypass copyright law. i'm not going to flat out accuse palworld for being developed with the use of ai, but purchases and engagement support this person. (2/7)

okay, but it's still a huge company. it's not an issue if that's ripped-off. does that logic still apply if the title being ripped off is from a indie company's indie title? nevergrave is a not yet released title, also by pocketpair. i hope you're seeing this pattern. (5/7)

alright... but plagiarism is okay, since pokemon games are developed at poor quality, and this will encourage a higher game quality! craftopia is an earlier title, with many of its mechanics used in palworld, still in an unpolished state. also a rip-off, obviously. (4/7)

now, you could say it's just a game, and continue to enjoy it. continue to purchase, partake in, and hold a game of this quality up on a pedestal. just recently, there's been an uproar of showing vocal support towards artists and workers in the creatives & games industry... (6/7)

an extra note:
if you want to show displeasure in a game's quality, that's completely valid. speak out, rent a copy, abstain from purchasing, make it known that a title is not hitting that level you feel justifies its purchase. plagiarizing from artists is not the way.

social media can be harsh but I still encourage everyone to speak on matters they feel are important. industry creatives are currently in a rough position.

one of my resolutions was to introduce myself as Liz alongside my given name irl in university and stuff. everyone has been so kind and supportive, and one of my professors default to Liz. it's a really great feeling.

Some detailed commentary regarding Palworld's model similarities to Pokémon.
Tldr, no hard evidence for ripped models, likelihood of heavy referencing.
I am not a fan of the game, but I'm less of a fan of people spreading misinformation to build an argument.

The proportions ARE close, maybe they used ripped Pkmn models as a reference & made their own models to match
But the topology of triangles is different. I don't think they just edited existing models: they still seemingly made their own, just to have v. close proportions
