USAID was deliberately structured to benefit US farmers and associated institutions. Its destruction will hurt them
The University of Missouri is part of the Soybean Innovation Lab. Missouri, as a state, is #7 in the nation for soybean production. It is our #1 crop. The annual on farm value of Missouri’s soybean crop is more than $2.5 billion. #moleg @GovMikeKehoe /1

Good 🧵. USAID is still worth fighting for. Don't stop calling Congress
The state of play, a week into Elon's assault on USAID. USAID is in a state of suspended animation - it has been powered down, but it's not *quite* to the point where it can't be powered back on. What happens next comes down to the courts & Congress. 🧵

@wwwojtekk Though as a grant writer I don't like indirect costs much either! Still, it's a major question what would be a better alternative

@wwwojtekk I think it quickly becomes a very challenging admin problem to keep track of whether many different grants separately amortizing 10% of a janitor's salary or whatever have paid for a full janitor

@albrgr Agreed. Nytimes has been far and away the best calling attention to this absolute disaster
