My beautiful mother was massacred 30 years ago today, April 10th 1994 during the Genocide against the Tutsi.
As the last born, I did carry for the longest time the weight of unspoken love and missed moments, yearning for the embrace of a mother I never knew. Gone too soon 💔

On this day, April 10th, 1994, Mother was brutally taken away from me, from my family during the genocide against the Tutsi.
I was but a mere baby at the time, unable to create any memories with her,… my heart aches with the pain of what could have been.
Forever in my heart 🕯️

I am immensely grateful for my adoptive family, truly angels.
They lavished so much love on me and that made me the loving person I am.
So many orphans got more wounds because of being mistreated by their family members.
Praying for Healing ❤️🩹

To be honest the day I learned how my parents were massacred, my heart was pierced. Mama baramutemye, baramutwika nabo bari kumwe bose.
Na Papa baramutemye, na musaza wanjye.
I remember saying to myself as a child “interahamwe ni abana babi… 😔”

Being the last born in my family, I was still nursing at the age of 3.
The sudden, brusque separation with my mother made me experience a great deal of trauma and would cry frequently on a daily basis.

I came to understand my trauma later on. I am encouraging the genocide survivors to embrace the healing journey. It’s hard… myself i was able to share my story for the 1st time in 2019.

I remember after the genocide, growing up…let’s say at the age of 7…
I would wake up and start crying for no reason, feeling so sad, a void I couldn’t explain… and I never told anyone.
