Ed Piskor’s death is a gut punch. His suicide note is haunting. I can’t imagine what his family and friends are going through. Everything about this is wrong. I will remember him for the infectious joy he had for the medium I love. Peace.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t use something I learned from Tom Palmer and find out, once again, that he solved the problem first. His work had a life to it that few could match. An amazing artist on every level. Rest well, you did good, Tom!

He was an enormous presence both talent and physically and loomed over me as he watched me ink. I got so nervous I spilled ink over the panel. Neal patiently taught me how to fix the page. His influence is incalculable, truly. Thanks for the lessons, Neal!

My favorite memory of Tim Sale was dinner one night with a gang of pros. We stumbled into a conversation about “favorite panels” and discovered we had so many in common. Great fun to find a comrade. Godspeed, Tim-you’re the best!

Denny O’Neil passed away last night. He was a great writer, editor and teacher and always a man of principle. A different O’Neil wrote “attention must be paid”. I hope he knew how much he was loved and respected. Godspeed, Denny! Catch you on the other side!

As a kid I did some work as a Crusty Bunker up at Continuity Studios that was run by Neal Adams and Dick Giordano. Being a Crusty meant you did backgrounds and Neal and Dick would ink figures. I was working on a Howard Chaykin page when Neal came by (2)

A brilliant artist who never compromised his unique vision. Sad to see he’s no longer with us. He leaves a world of art from which to learn and enjoy. Sometimes I wish heroes would live forever.
We’ve lost a giant. Richard Corben was an original. He redefined comic art over and over, creating new coloring/ color separating techniques, drawing expressions and movements that most of can’t begin to equal and producing a body of work that is still grossly under appreciated.

Michel-saw the same interview yesterday and tho I agree with you, I get the same reaction from my class and was raking my mind to try and figure out how such a viewpoint, what is nostalgia, what is contemporary, is formed.
Not just waxing his car here, I seriously can't see what he's talking about. If anything, Simonson's work is different because it's so far beyond everything else. It's not a callback to anything.
I hate that ignorant eyeballs have placed this doubt on a legend. Dweeb mentality.

Shane-ink, paper, brush, pen have more personality and will give your work an identifiable look, which you want, but you have to learn digital for what it brings to your look also. Digital is another tool, like a pencil or brush, to learn. Use everything!
