In college I had the opportunity to stay at the Naval Academy / visit Andrews Air Force Base + the Pentagon. Spending time with those who had chosen to serve was incredibly formative, and it's sad how little support there is for that today

this was basically how i learned venture. for every meeting my first year, i'd write down everything people referenced that i didn't know / understand. then i'd spend hours each night looking into each one. at some point things began clicking. had to put in the work
There is no shortcut to the struggle. More senior researchers went through the exact same journey. The most valuable class I ever took was an epigenetics class where we had to deep-read the primary literature. I had a special highlighter for words or methods I didn’t understand
