1/ How much comp should the first engineer at a venture backed startup getโ€“cash + equity? Iโ€™ve been asked this question tens (hundreds?) of times over the past months by both founders and engineers looking to join at the pre-seed/seed stage.

In SF, we've been complaining how annoyingly hot the past week has been (80-90F & sunny) Meanwhile, my friends in Tampa are about to get hit by their 2nd hurricane in 2 weeks Makes me realize how spoiled (& soft) we are in California Sending my prayers to those in Florida

Reason 2: Interestingly, 28% of M5+ Brazilian leaders are women (much higher than Poland), but only 8% of Brazilian engineers are women; 8% is the lowest women engineering representation rate in our study.

๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท Brazil also stands out for two reasons due to its 48% โ€œrawโ€ gap and 80% โ€œnormalizedโ€ gap. Reason 1: the normalized gap is 80%โ€“the lowest in our studyโ€“meaning that representation is likely only one part of the problem.

Some observations from around the world: ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฑ ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ. Poland has a massive gap between the โ€œrawโ€ (53%) and โ€œnormalizedโ€ (92%) pay gap. Why? Representation plays a large hand.

@nooriefyi @davefontenot Tried all kinds of different things but what worked for that client was through email strategy we learned from @Matthewschulman (visiting founder during HF0). Helped us get in front of the right people and closed the deal in person during a conference.
