Kill The Fill PAC is the voice of communities, united over a single cause, working together to stop a proposed landfill in South Kansas City, Missouri.
A landfill within a mile of a neighborhood has far-reaching implications. Development stops, homeowners move away, stores close, blight ensues. We think it's fair the people most affected by a landfill get a say.
#KillTheFill
The legislative change we support -- extending a buffer zone around a landfill to a mile from a half-mile -- will protect your neighborhoods, as well as to ours.
#KillTheFill
Thousands of KC voters are listening to a statewide candidate from St. Louis read a children’s book to prevent her colleagues from voting on a bill. We don’t understand why.

. And listen, too. That sound is kids playing across the street from the proposed landfill during school recess. Who thinks putting a landfill there is a good idea?
#KillTheFill
If the landfill being proposed is such a good idea, why are the developers unwilling to try to convince the mayors and councils of its closest neighbors to support it?

We get it. Someone is going to make a lot of money on a very modest investment in land. That’s not a bad thing. But let it not be for a giant landfill, please.
#KillTheFill
The MO House Local Gov Committee heard testimony today for landfill bills HB 1751 & HB 1438. 9-year old Raymore resident Macie Thomas said she would be able to see the landfill from her swing set & asked the committee members to support the bills. More at
Two regional reports tell us we have two decades to create a sustainable trash management plan. Area residents don't need a new landfill. They need quality schools, public services, and a healthy place to live.

Our goal remains unchanged. We want the General Assembly to approve a change to an old law that would extend the radius of approval from a half-mile to one mile.

The developer of the proposed landfill owns only a fraction of what she claims. And the entire site is currently zoned residential. The only thing on her property is… a residence.

Local control in its purest form means the people closest to the situation get a say. Senate bill 739 is local control, giving people within a mile of the proposed landfill a voice.

How big is the proposed landfill project? About 500 acres. That’s the same size as the Disneyland resort or the entire country of Monaco or 378 football fields.
#KillTheFill
A year ago, the developer told legislators she had acquired 500 acres on which to site a 270 acre landfill. Turns out, she hadn’t then and she hasn’t yet.

We are very grateful to the members of the Missouri House of Representatives's Local Government Committee for their attention and time today.

Thank you to
@MARCKCMetro
and
@BurnsMcDonnell
for completing a comprehensive study regarding landfill capacity in our region. We're looking forward to tonight's meeting!
#KillTheFill
We've concluded a study, led by
@BurnsMcDonnell
to forecast regional landfill capacity.
Scenarios indicate the region has 19-37 years of landfill capacity left.
Join us to discuss the findings Jan. 24, 6-7 p.m.

The MARC study looked at seven landfills, three in KS and four in MO, that serve the

area and one still in the permit stage. Conclusion: no urgent need for another landfill at this time.

Really enjoying reading along with senator
@meaccoleman
while she filibusters a bill that could stop a landfill from going across the street from an elementary school where kids actually read these books.
Our neighbors live within a mile of the proposed landfill site. Some have wells. Our kids go to school right across the street. That's OUR investment in what happens.

Nothing like a fire on a very windy day to remind us why we don't want to share our yards and playgrounds with a giant landfill and its friends.

HB 1751 perfected MO House, 113-30. Thanks to Reps. Haffner, Ealy, Ingle, Gallick, Davis, Strickler, Faulkner for speaking on the bill and to the bill cosponsors and supporters.

Many of us relied on existing regional plans and local zoning laws when we bought our homes or opened businesses. None of those documents envisioned a landfill across the street.

Welcome to our new followers. We’re

We have not met anyone in the Missouri Capitol Building who thinks we deserve a landfill across the street from our school. We’re thankful for the state legislature's support.
#KillTheFill
Working from home in a place as beautiful as the landscape around us is very appealing. Living and working less than a half mile from a giant landfill won’t be.

Property rights? Ask your realtor what happens to property values when someone decides to build a landfill within a half mile. Ask any developer if they want to build there. Ask any restaurant if they want to serve there.

On Jan. 9, the City of Lee's Summit adopted Resolution 24-02, which expressed opposition "to the location of a landfill or other facility involved in solid waste hauling near the city's border." The proposed site is one-half mile from Lee's Summit.

This new firehouse in Lee's Summit will be miles nearer to the proposed south KC landfill site than KC's closest fire station. Yet, Lee's Summit currently has no voice in the matter.

The public is invited to the Open House of Fire Station No. 5. Receive a behind-the-scenes look at the new facility, hear from Mayor Baird and Chief Snider and witness the unique hose uncoupling ceremony. Light refreshments will be offered.

Thankful to have school back in session today for my visit to
@LSR7
Summit Pointe Elementary School in sensational South Kansas City. We talked about our dream school buildings and, of course, more playgrounds for the city. Loved my time with the kindergartners.
We would still be yelling across our back fences if it weren’t for the thoughtful coverage we’ve gotten from the KC and statewide media. We support local journalism.
#KillTheFill
From testimony yesterday, we learned the developer has not acquired the necessary land, not changed the zoning, not consulted with the neighbors, and not begun to apply for a license.
#KillTheFill
The landfill developers don’t own the land! They own 92 acres out of the proposed 400+ they claim they have and need to run their landfill. You can check Jackson County public records.
Good morning from the south side of the metro!
Had a wonderful meeting with the Mayor of

And now, a message about litter, from Ranger Jaimie.

Whether you're on public lands or at your local park, remember to leave no trace. Critters can become entangled in litter, or even try and consume it and die. Stash your trash and help the wildlife.
Diverting food waste to compost facilities -- extending Missouri's landfill capacity -- reducing methane gas emissions -- improving air quality for all Missourians.
#KillTheFill
The developer faces plenty of other hurdles -- acquiring land, rezoning, financing, permitting -- in opening a landfill. But as the most affected parties, we want a say.
#KillTheFill
Thanks to our neighbors who separate recyclable waste and to those who act effectively to treat it at recycling facilities. You are part of the solution.

Reminder: Who are we? We are residents and small businesses whose lives and livelihoods will be changed without any say UNLESS the legislature changes an old law to give us one.

Should the landfill ever be built it would be meters from the highest elevation in Kansas City. Nothing more exciting than proclaiming your city’s tallest point is trash.
