I fix CRTs when it's necessary, but I always calibrate them properly.

I took the plunge and bought a Mega Everdrive in case @yuzokoshiro still needs my help with Earthion. But I want to extend my expertise to everyone. If you have a MegaDrive/Genesis homebrew project and you want high-quality CRT photography of your game in action for in-house reference or for marketing materials, let me know. I can't travel the world calibrating CRTs, (unless you're paying expenses 😅) but I can give you the next best thing when you need to know what your game will look like on real hardware and a real CRT that's calibrated to reference standards.

@elbuensaul @usa_retro Sony does explicitly say that they do not guarantee the performance of the monitor beyond 100 nits in terms of sharpness... but we are talking about a proper, light controlled room.

There aren't many pictures of me, because usually I'm the photographer. But I came across this photo from a lifetime ago. This was the last time I had designs to play music full time. I recorded a really great demo and played out a few times. I was really proud of what it was shaping up to be. I suppose most musicians never make it that far, let alone any real success, so I'm happy that I could organize a recording session, write the arrangements and record five guitar parts the old fashioned way and it turn out well. It's not exactly a fashionable skill anymore, but I'm at least good enough at it that it's not weird I still love it at my age.

Some of that is definitely moiré from the camera, not the CRT. The PVM 1342Q does exhibit some dot crawl in composite, but the PVM 14L5 has other issues. It soves the dot crawl at the cost of some other weird processing failures. Pictured below is the Sony PVM 14L5 failing various composite video decoding tests. You'd have to probably try a BVM 1911 before you find any Sony Professional CRT with great composite video processing.

@JT___3000 @MeghanEMurphy Taking your comment at face value, remind me if I'm losing sight of anything later... But my feeling was that nothing has surpassed Liquid Swords or Aquemini, like, ever. What, in the last 25 years, even comes close?

@YasumiMatsuno I completely calibrated a Sony Professional CRT to ensure the best possible Composite Video presentation of Vagrant Story. Many of us appreciate the staggering achievement of that project at every level of design. Thank you.

Years ago, a squirrel threw a chicken wing bone at my dog and started screaming at him. It's actually a bad idea to walk your dog at Chicago parks, as the squirrels all pull grilled meat bones out of the garbage, carry them up into trees, clean them off and throw them on the ground from the tree limb. Do you know how long it took me to figure out *squirrels* were the ones littering bones everywhere, at every park I visited? 😅

@ALadyNamedKatie Clean, fresh pillow case every night. Buy several and wash them after every night. Don't sleep two nights on the same one. See if that helps, because it's a pretty easy way to make a difference.

@redrose_anna Cricket taco. It was a fancy restaurant in DC when I visited a decade ago or so. Like crunchy BBQ. Interesting experience.

@sarahcstock The next 25 years are going to go by a lot faster than you can ever imagine. You don't want to wake up in your 40s without a family, trust me.

@pennyelizabeths Super Bowl is a common break point for many TV prices. End of the year clearance is usually April/May with many new models launching in June/July. What are you thinking about getting?
