2 strange accidents at Kikoboga, Tanzania, that occurred yesterday.
First plane had a landing gear collapse during departure and veered off the runway.
Second plane was sent to pick the stranded pax, then veered off the runway into a building also during departure.
The Kenyan twitter timeline is awash with political activity, but for those not interested in politics, I would like to distract you by indicating that today is, in fact, a huge day in Kenyan aviation history
A video has surfaced of a Kenyan registered Dash8 operating for UNHAS in Afghanistan being mobbed by a crowd of people, possibly following the Taliban's take-over of governance of Afghanistan.
Of course this is incorrect. But I established Robert, that you tweet a lot about aviation without fact checking. So trying to correct you on this will be as useless as trying to take soup with a fork. However if it gives you the retweets you seek, all in a days work 👍
No matter how many times they advertise, Skyward and Silverstone are a complete risk. We shouldn’t be having planes which are used for cargo at night and converted to accommodate passengers during the day. One of their plane crashed in Utawala because of overloading.
Unconfirmed information indicates a mid-air incident between a Safarilink Dash 8 and a Cessna 172 with the Dash 8 managing to land safely, and the C172 crashing at Nairobi National Park. This is tentative information, to be confirmed
Nigeria has a history of having porous airports. From having aircraft robbed while taxying at Lagos Airport to this video taken by a private jet crew at Sokoto Airport. I thought I had seen the worst in South Sudan but this almost tops it.
On this day, 18 years ago, a Kenya Airways Airbus A310-300 registration 5Y-BEN, tagged "The Harambee Star" and flying on callsign KQ431 from Abidjan to Nairobi via Lagos, crashed into the Atlantic ocean just after 9pm local time. Out of the 179 pax on board, only 10 survived.
I can also confirm that the Safarilink Dash 8 had a mid-air collision with a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, registration 5Y-NNJ, operated by Ninety Nines Flying School. The C172 crashed at the national park. And sadly, this crash has caused fatal injuries.
If any of you know of an aircraft engineer that has 110 years or above working experience on the Fokker 50, kindly inform him that his/her many years experience might be required in Nairobi
Early morning accident today in Yida, South Sudan, involving a Fokker 50. No information on the registration nor pax on board yet but some Kenyan and Ethiopian registered F50's are currently operating out of Juba, usually in cargo configuration.
This weekend marked 22 years since the crash of

flight KQ431 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, which marked the first ever hull loss for the airline that included fatalities. May the souls of those that perished due to this crash continue resting in peace.
Caravan and Antonov crews in DRC and South Sudan are wondering what the hullaballoo about a C17 departing Kabul with 4.5times the passenger / cargo capacity is, yet this is a standard for them in their areas of operation.

Taking a moment today to mark the 23rd anniversary of the crash of

flight KQ431 off the coast of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. 169 passengers died and only 10 people survived this crash. May the souls of those that perished continue resting in peace.
On 02 Feb, A Cessna Caravan C208B reg. 5Y-BMZ operated by Renegade Air was departing Nasir, South Sudan and crashed next to the airstrip. All passengers and crew evacuated safely, however it is reported that one elderly passenger succumbed to her injuries.
Cessna Caravan, Kenyan Reg. 5Y-BUR, crashed while attempting a departure from Mandeng, South Sudan, on the afternoon of the 19 August 2024. All POB evacuated successfully (number unsure). Picture shared show the a/c lying on its roof on a swampy area near Mandeng
The airspace overhead Kenya remains quiet this morning as an airport workers strike called by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union takes effect, causing massive delays and a number of flight cancellations in and out of international and regional airports in Kenya.
If an aircraft is operating in the greater Eastern African region and has a tail reg. from either;
- Tajikistan (EY)
- Iraqi (YI)
- Gabon (TR)
- Colombia (HK)
- Burundi (9U)
Then there is a huge chance that registration is fake.
That's it. That's the tweet.
I don't usually use my twitter for activism purposes but I would like to highlight something here and would like to request for you, my followers and others, to assist in highlighting an issue that, if known by senior officials of the Kenyan government, will assist in securing
On this the 18th year of the anniversary of the crash, let us take a moment to remember the lives lost, and as well, appreciate the efforts made in the years after this crash to make flying safer for all.

Cessna Caravan C208 Reg. 5Y-SAV operated by City Link crashed in New Fangak, South Sudan on Sunday 16 Aug 20. All 2 crew and 5 pax escaped with minor injuries.
Sure, pilots might not be solving quadratic equations mid-flight, but last time I checked, they can navigate through turbulence without blaming the previous crew. ✈️
Nothing against pilots. . But they not the sharpest tools in the shed. Great pay without need for intelligence. Suppose we could say the same about JE leaders/politicians.
With the recent political events in Gabon, should the country decide to implement transit restrictions on their airspace, then Cameroun (shown in Green) will remain the only passageway between East and West Africa.
5Y-CFE Cessna 172 from Arusha (TZ) to Mombasa (KE) may have had a CFIT event enroute and crashed at approximately 8pm this evening, with all 3 pax on board having succumbed to this accident.

As per aviation security Annex, the captain of EK722, in his capacity as pilot in command, and who is mandated with safe operation of the aircraft, has the power to kick the passenger out of the aircraft. In this scenario, security officials would have no option but to comply
I got to learn today with great sadness of the passing of Barbara, Jean and the 8 passengers on the ill-fated FlySax that crashed 2 days ago. It is not easy to lose people you trained with and have known for a while. May they all rest in peace.
It would be interesting to see the incident report that the captain will lodge on arrival in Dubai. But that marks the end of my tweets in regards EK722.
I had barely finished my previous tweet and have now been informed that the Captain has offloaded the hostile passenger. The hostile passenger is now being escorted to the terminal by security officials. EK722 should now proceed shortly.

The captain of EK722 is finding himself in a very queer position. He may have played his part in offloading the hostile passenger, but he cannot take off without permission. A difficult choice here. It is not every day you come across Mexican stand-off in commercial aviation.
Cessna Caravan Reg. 5Y-ZBW operated by Z. Boskovic air charters is indicated to have had an incident at about 12.30pm today while attempting to take off from Migori Airstrip, Kenya. Aircraft had 10 passengers and 1 crew member, all evacuated safely.

12.18am, 1hr 34min delay, EK722 remains delayed in Nairobi and still not showing any indications of movement. Now eating up into the crew's duty time. There is a chance ATC are with-holding its clearance. KQ886 to Bangkok has just taken off.

I will require a minimum 13 whiskies, a cigar and lots of popcorn to get to understand what those 2 Antonovs were doing on the runway at Khartoum Airport
@Jasiri_BFM
Could you kindly share some feedback on how Jomo can handle the A380, i.e. the PCN of the runway compared to the ops spec of the A380, the taxiways, manouvering space at the airport as well as the gates whose bridges can support the A380?

A Malawian DHC-5 Buffalo, reg. 7Q-STB has been reported to have had an accident in Pieri, South Sudan, earlier today. I am awaiting more information, but sad to note that this is one of the few remaining civilian registered Buffalos in the world.
Today marks 34 days since 2 Kenyan crew members were held hostage in Akobo, South Sudan. The Kenya Airline Pilots Association has put out an advert in the dailies in respect to the continued detention of the crew members.
Update at 2341hrs. EK722 is now delayed by over 1hr. From my understanding a hostile passenger on board has refused for the flight to proceed safely and doors remain open. Crew are unable to offload him.
This B190D operated by South Africa's NAC for UNHAS bore the brunt of the skirmishes that took place recently at Bamako Airport. Considering it is pressurized, a lot of work would have to go into it to bring it back to service. I would reckon it will be an insurance write-off.

Without knowing which initials represent the royal Dutch airline, this man grew to be in later years, one of the biggest paid critics of Kenyan aviation. His criticisms however never changed, as he still lacks relevant knowledge in aviation.
When the Concorde used to fly over the Middle East on the early Bahrain routes, there were complaints that the sonic booms upset the camels and ruined their sex lives. How this fact came to be discovered remains a mystery.

However, at this stage, Kenya Airways decided to severe ties with Airbus, and quickly discontinued the operation of all Airbus aircraft in their fleet. KQ upgraded their operation with aircraft from Boeing and Embraer, but have never used Airbus since.

have a silver bullet to immediately step in and take advantage of this by increasing frequencies of flights to many locations, I wonder if they are looking at these options
Unfortunate that they choose to treat Kenyans in such inhumane ways when we are in their country.
