The stronger USD after that employment report has driven the NZD to new post GFC lows (before that the last time we were at 55.5c was in 2003. Oil is up 10% in the month also. The inflation consequences are clear - TWI is over 3% lower than RBNZ assumptions.

Beleive it or not we are number 19 on the list of exporters of Steel to the US. Australia is number 15. We both got threatened with additional 25% tariffs last night. NZ exports were aroound NZD 100 m - so not massive.

@peitracine Yes - we need to be in AUKUS and boost defense spending a bit. That should keep them happy.

@peitracine Undoubtedly part of the story for China but if the US would still be sucking in imports from someone with existing policies. China is just taking action to maximise their market share.
