Twitter’s gonna be a real mess tonight As a respite, I offer this story of my encounter with Wendell Berry. Enjoy Riding With Wendell

As I sat in the back seat of the Buick Century, I couldn’t help but notice the odor. I discretely checked my armpits, but the smell of stale sweat greeting my nose emanated from the car itself. It …

The Alabama Pecan Growers Conference is my last pecan meeting of the year. And by far, they have the best meal! All you can eat BBQ and fried shrimp!

Seems to me that our country should consider moving some of the unsustainable ag production in water-short areas of California to the grain belt of the mid-west, assist farmers in shifting to crops suitable to growing season there on awesome soils & relieve the grain drain.

Our ritual began simply. We hopped into Pop’s yellow LTD, he hit play on a Jerry Clower or a Chuck Wagon Gang cassette tape, and we were off. There was no need to load up our fishing rods, tackle b…

Amazing stuff going on every day that the average person has no clue about nor cares. A shame.
With a 4-inch wing span, some green darner dragonflies can migrate more than 80 miles per day, with some traveling from Canada all the way to Mexico. Migration is more concentrated in the fall, sometimes resulting in swarms of dragonflies! 📷 Jim Hudgins/USFWS

Found a place today that may never leave my memory. The thinnest of thin spaces. Actually (fr) electric in its mysticism. A waterfall and small creek. Superabundance of mushrooms. A weird shelter someone had made. Tiny Brook Trout with awesome par markings. Strong pull to go

Normalize the town doctor driving his tractor through town on his way to the farm. If you need him you know where he’ll be. This was my hometown when I was a kid.

Took this one down off the shelf for another read. The title story is my favorite of Berry’s short fiction. A beautiful story. Worse things you could do on a Thursday night.
