The govt does need to #RaiseTheRate for many reasons: food, meds, utilities, etc. But as far as housing is concerned, landlords will just raise rents. Nothing will solve this problem except an increase in supply. For ppl living in poverty, that means public housing. Build it.

A few people have responded to this with "What about rabies?" Rabies does not exist here in Australia. But we do have a few other nasty bat-borne viruses, so if it were me, I'd be wearing gloves. I have bats in my backyard, & I'd never handle one without gloves.
While not part of their usual behaviour, bats can swim, especially in stressful situations if the need arises. And they are indeed surprisingly good at it. [📹 Catherine Murphy]
