a large part of the annoyance here is that the media is treating one bad debate performance as a victory lap for three and a half years of making his age an issue without any evidence. it still makes you look bad. this was not his first public appearance ins 3.5 years.
Addition to number 2: Biden allies spent 3.5 years saying the reason voters have such deep concerns about Biden's age is because The New York Times writes too often about Biden's age. Instead of, say... the magical power of sight and sound.
