I thought we were...
@Rubizon Past using beauty contests to entertain tech professionals. Past linking our field to outdated gender stereotypes. Past perpetuating harmful bias. Past alienating many in the tech community. Past objectifying women and reducing them to their looks in a tech setting.

@margolainen @MladenPrajdic @intoleranse Same event, same venue. And they are actually stating "photo-opportunities with Miss Norway contestants after 23:00" on the registration page.

@Rubizon If you want to learn more about the topic, I can recommend the following books. They will give you great examples of barriers: - Reset: My Fight for Inclusion and Lasting Change - by Ellen Pao - Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys' Club of Silicon Valley by Emily Chang

@Knut_Yrvin @ilbrando You have not asked me these questions as far as I have seen. Of course anyone should be free to attend whichever activity they like, that doesn't mean this event is appropriate as a tech event. Many are sharing that this event would make them feel uncomfortable.

RT @margolainen: @Knut_Yrvin @karolikl @Rubizon Organizing beauty pageants is "celebrating gender diversity"? I will tell you about my feel…

@malinkbruland @Knut_Yrvin @Rubizon I am not opposed to anyone wearing shirts, regardless of gender.

@Knut_Yrvin @Rubizon Again, I am supportive of the volunteering project with Miss Norway. It's the celebration of the anniversary for NUUG which comes across as using these women as a photo-op when you advertise with "spend the evening with Norways most beautiful women" and "put on a nice shirt".

@Knut_Yrvin @Rubizon I don't see how letting the user group watch women promotes gender diversity in tech. I do believe your members are already aware that women exist. If you recruit all of them to pursue a career in tech, then you are contributing to diversity in tech.

@Knut_Yrvin @Rubizon And to be clear, my reaction would have been the same for *any* other tech user group as well.
