I’m #SfN2024 poster W29,Tues PM, showing Tzuhsuan Ma’s work on how🐁reason about complex spaces: they use sparse subsets of paths and seem to reason about them as extended objects🤔We also have a PD pos. to work on neural dynamics in sequential reasoning / naturalistic behavior.

@neuralreckoning @JakubTomek13 @ResearchSoftEng Absolutely! Open source tools are a big part of how we could approach this. That said, private companies could imo play an important role, probably with public support funding through NIH etc. Not VC funded short term profit optimizing ones- their incentives are all wrong.

@neuralreckoning I completely agree. The idea is that there's cases where e.g. it costs the same total amount of money to hire efficient experts for a few months as opposed to paying postdocs to spend an extra year on something. The momentary costs would of course be higher.

We still have a postdoc position in my lab at @HHMIJanelia where we use approaches like this to figure out how mice can quickly learn flexible computations by building and using models of their environment. Get in touch if this sound fun and interesting!
It's an unspoken fact that freely moving lab mice are not really freely moving. We came up with a method to change this. See the preprint: (1/3)

@SusanLeemburg Thanks! We'll tweet more info soon, briefly, there's good news on that: this tether is cheaper to replace/repair yourself than many current ones because it is just a very small coax cable with one shield and one central conductor.

Hah Emily beat me to it😀I endorse this message! We'll be looking at how mice do things they are naturally great at (and computers are not), such as making flexible decisions in the real world and learning quite quickly. Ping me if you want to chat!
if you're at #SfN2022 (or #SfN22) and are looking for a postdoc studying spatial reasoning and doing fun mostly freely moving behavior with a great team, find @jvoigts from @voigtslab! ... plus I hear he has some great collaborators, too 😎

Opportunity alert if you want to push neuroscience forward by developing some pretty intense new technology and want to spread open-source science, with all it's benefits.
Open Ephys has some big news: we have been awarded a Phase II SBIR to develop exciting new tech using our open-hardware standards. We are looking for an engineer to help us with this! Here are some reasons you might want to apply...

@ElDuvelle We were planning to do a drive building speedrun on twitch a while ago, not sure it would qualify as relaxing though.
