@DredgeUp How seeds disperse, what encourages germination in wild, do they have any survival in a seed bank? ie do seeds last longer than a year in the soil? How long lived is each plant, how deep down can its roots go?

@Billericay_AG Apart from loss of that green....There can't be development next to an ancient woodland without damage to that woodland, whatever claims developers make.

To be in one place for 1000 years. And just think of all the invertebrate life inside that rotting hollow trunk. An ecosystem in a single tree.

🎉1️⃣🍾 Nº 1 on the daily year-end countdown of Sweden’s 🇸🇪 stoutest Oaks is Kvilleken! It’s considered to be Sweden's oldest and largest tree, if not the largest oak in all of Europe in terms of girth. It measures 14 meters in circumference and is at least a thousand years old.

My best #fly this year, as it is in most yrs - one of my 'Adopted Species' I monitor and study within the Dipterists Forum, a female Clubbed General #Soldierfly Stratiomys chamaeleon. Brillant wasp mimic & very rare. In June at #Cothillfen in Oxon.

A recent report by @WildJustice_org suggests that developers aren’t delivering promised environmental outcomes on new developments. So I thought I’d put it to the test on a newish housing site close to me. A 🧵

It's not real snow, but it looks snowy & sort of Christmassy to me. From May-June, flowering in a few of our amazing ancient calcareous, alkaline spring fens in Oxon: the Broad-leaved Cotton-grass Eriophorum latifolium. Merry Christmas followers! Now find me where the Sky is Blue

Biodiversity is in collapse. BNG is not fit for purpose and is causing ecocide. We need to stop developing our most valuable sites for wildlife in the uncertain hope of 'creating' replacement wildlife somewhere else, some time in the future...

Although it's new, BNG needs urgent review. The weaknesses are ones we flagged from the outset: 🏡Enforcement is failing so promised gains never appear. 🏠The 10% gain requirement isn't enough to contribute to nature recovery 🏘️Huge loopholes are leave many developments exempt.

Mild weather means #fungi can still emerge. A massive fruiting of white saddles Helvella crispa on a road verge near me in leaf litter under old oaks (202 fruitbodies counted). And some Blewitts, poss Lepista nuda but pale. Chances of getting a Road Verge Nat Res for fungi ??

It is WORSE than this as Labour is actually asking councils to build 1.85 m homes PLUS new towns of over 10,000 homes. Instead we need a approach Over 7000 people have already sent it to their MP
