The ancient hollow ‘Wishing Oak’ of Hässelby
Generations of children growing up here has played inside it. Hopefully many future generations can do the same

A child is pulled through a tree in Uppland (Sweden) to recover from the Spanish flu in 1918.
By pulling the child through a hollow in a tree at a certain time of day, it was believed that the child would emerge on the other side as a newborn, free from illness.
’Kongeegen’ (The King’s Oak) in - 🇩🇰

This huge old lady is, despite her size and character, unknown with no info to be found online. She’s 8,4 metres (27 feet) thick and lives by a small road in Östergötland. A new favourite!

In the early 19th century, there were concerns that the oak forests in Sweden would not be sufficient for the future needs of the navy. Therefore, the parliament decided to establish oak plantations

Today, less than half a percent of the deciduous forest remains in the European nemoral zone.
Yet, few champion the cause of deciduous forests and tropical rainforests attract more attention in Sweden

Cork oak endures drought and makes little demand on the soil quality and is regarded as a defence against desertification.
Since cork is increasingly being displaced by other materials as a bottle cap, these forests are at risk threatening the Iberian lynx and imperial eagles
