He’s spent the most time (472:55) with Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt, and the trio have the following stats: xGF%: 52.32% SCF%: 56.29% HDCF%: 51.31% xGF/60: 2.89 SCF/60: 33.49 HDCF/60: 12.43 Pretty good, right?

And this is all while mainly playing with the Devils’ best. According to HockeyViz’s sG model, he’s playing like an above-average fourth liner:

His xGF% ranks third-worst on the team. His HDCF% ranks second-worst on the team. His shot share ranks fourth-worst on the team.

For the first two seasons of the contract, Palat made me eat my words. He was excellent despite dealing with serious injury and had that playoff touch that made me forget about the godawful deal he was on. This season, though, he’s worse than he ever has been.

His contract was a mistake from the get go. Five years, $6 million. Full no movement clause. Wrong side of 30. Almost a decade since his best career years in terms of production. By all measures, it was an awful signing.

@DubbsIsLike I have never once watched a game this season and said “wow, Meier looks horrible today” or “I haven’t seen Meier anywhere.” You’re just wrong, man.

@DubbsIsLike If your eye test is telling you Meier has been an issue in literally any facet other than maybe converting on a few of those posts, you just straight up need to watch the game better.

@AlexC_NJD @MoneyPuckdotcom And there have been people saying he’s a problem, which is so bonkers to me lol I’d be more than content running back this tandem next year.
