Affiliate marketing will teach you that the combination of offer + lander + ad can print money. Brand building will teach you that if you have a strong brand, you can put up a picture of the product and print money. If you combine both, you have an unfair advantage.

We have accounts spending multiple millions per month. Anybody who says you don't need a lot of creative to get to this scale isn't operating at this scale. The truth is, you need more than you think you do, and all types of creative. Videos, statics, bumpers, carousels, DPA.

We used Amazon ads to triple a store’s revenue in about 5 months. As we scaled, % of rev from ads came DOWN. Amazon ads lets you win conversions on high value keywords; win enough volume on them you win organic ranking. it’s like paid media with a halo effect of SEO.

3. They're heavily invest in creative. The best brands are launching at least 15 new angles per month, sometimes 30+, with tons of iterations. The best ads die, and you need to constantly test to find new winners. Always creating, always testing.

This hot take that media buying is dead only applies at low scale. If you’re actually scaling (spending over $10-$15k per day), great media buying is what can get you to spending $50k/day. Creative is important, but media buying scales.

Media buyers are only good if they scale. The trend I’ve noticed among top tier media buyers; they are naturally great at pattern recognition, they are typically not creative (don’t want to write copy), and are obsessed with the algorithm and auction.

(5/5) Try to make 1 ad. There would always be 1 ad that is untouchable, 1 angle that outperforms everything else. Test a lot of ads to find ONE. There will always be that apex predator ad that beats all of them - test to find it, then scale that 1 ad to the moon.

5. They use every channel & network. Brands winning on FB are running Google, Amazon, Snap, TikTok, etc. They're utilizing email, SMS, and customer loyalty programs heavily. Ads acquire customers, retention realizes LTV. The whole ecosystem makes each organism stronger.

4. They move militantly according to a CAC/LTV framework. The name of the game is acquire new-to-brand customers. Apex predator brands are typically looking at 3:1 LTV/CAC on a 90 day payback period. Day 1 ROAS is so 2019.

Most D2C FB Advertisers aren't ready to hear that their remarketing campaigns at a 4 ROAS aren't what they seem. It's likely way over attributing purchases through view attribution + FB is claiming sales that would've happened anyway.

I've been hearing media buyers now need to be creative strategists, copywriters, etc. The best media buyers I know look at buying ads like art. To them, scaling accounts is the creative work. When it comes to creative proper, it's not their strength.

Facebook/Insta/Meta is worth ridiculously more dollars than Twitter because its advertising brain allows brands to acquire customers cost effectively at an almost infinite scale. But as a SOCIAL network & measuring value to society, Twitter is the far more valuable IMO 👀

Meta just blew $2k in daily spend on an ad in a manual bid ASC that had a $220 CPA instead of 3 other ads which had a $40 CPA (which spent more). People that say "don't turn ads off" - you really wouldn't turn that ad off?

Higher AOV customers often have a higher LTV as well. Partly because the 1st purchase value was higher, but it's also a customer who has more disposable income & is more likely to purchase w higher frequency.

2. They're testing new offers. We noticed brands that are winning are testing discounts, bundles, new product launches, back in stock promos, etc. Life is so much easier when you convert at 4% vs 2%, especially when ad platforms don't work like they're supposed to.

(3/5) Stories sell. The best ad I ever wrote for Bob Proctor was a story of how he met Adrian Morrison. There's dialogue & internal narratives that tell a story about how Bob discovered Shopify. This 1 ad made over $3 million and outperformed everything else we ever made.

Duplicating an ad set -> Meta changes the sale destination from "website" to "websites & shop" automatically. You change it back to "website", Meta changes the budget to $20 and the button from "shop now" to "learn more". Whyyy tho?
