A new adventure means new introducing words!👋🌎 I’m Jonathan Cazabonne, currently a Ph.D student in #mycology 🍄 and old-growth #forest 🌲ecology at the Forest Research Institute @IRFUQAT of the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue @UQAT. There, I study #soil fungal diversity in old-growth #boreal forests from eastern #Canada and its roles in #carbon sequestration using environmental #sequencing approaches. I also investigate new tools (LiDAR, tree-related microhabitats, Indice of Potential Biodiversity) for monitoring soil fungal diversity in North American boreal forests. I’m also part of #TeamLaboul (, led by @dhaelewa, where I explore #biodiversity and #conservation shortfalls of a largely unknown and overlooked fungal group, the Laboulbeniomycetes. More broadly, my research seeks to deepen our understanding of diversity within poorly known fungal groups in undersampled habitats and their #interactions with other kingdoms, with a particular emphasis on mycorrhizal symbioses 🍄🌲 and fungi-arthropod🪲🐜interactions. I approach these subjects through multiple lenses, including molecular ecology🧬, community ecology, integrative #taxonomy, citizen science, #literature, and #art 📚🖊️. The ultimate goals of my research are twofold: (1) to contribute to the integration of fungi into biodiversity conservation plans and sustainable, ecosystem-based forest management practises, and (2) to raise public awareness of the critical issues embodied by fungi. Looking forward to making new mycological connections! Feel free to reach out!
