The fact that quantifiable mycotoxin concentration can increase during ensiling is notable. This new insight adds to our incentive to keep plants healthy heading into harvest and ensiling. @badgercropdoc lab doing great work.

As transition to thinking about field prep, soil fertility, planting and the 2025 season, it's important to get the team together - including your agronomist. Here are some excellent insights to consider, oriented toward plant health gains and cleaner feed in 2025. This screen shot is adapted from an upcoming @UWMadisonCALS extension publication, coordinated by @badgercropdoc and in collaboration with Dr. Ferraretto, Dr. Kaur, and Liz Gartman.

$430,000+ per 500 cows... This is a dairy producer's investment in forage, for an average Midwestern dairy diet. This number hit me differently as I'm preparing for upcoming meetings. Trust I'll be delving into optimizing this investment during upcoming seminars, including the @MidwestForage symposium, @UF_IFAS Ruminant Nutrition Symposium and others. I'll also extensively cover the latest trends and thoughts with @HoardsDairyman and @hayandforage in months to come. Heaps of assumptions put into this, but using @ISUANR crop production costs per acre for silage and established alfalfa. Let's get after helping dairy producers and growers do better with this $430+k investment in 2025.

Important point to take home. Patrick Wood just described how claims made by Dairy producers to their customers, milk processors, can carry certain rights which the processors can then pass along as a claim associated with milk production in the supply chain. Herein lies the value potential for dairy producers… a claim associated with implementing a verified sustainable practice can be immensely value. Excellent insights during the @dairypdpw Carbon Conference today.

Great lead in by Patrick Wood, detailing that roughly 75% of dairy food GHG footprint comes from the farm. This fact presents sizable opportunities for dairy producers! And my world? Feed production and enteric CH4 emissions comprise nearly 50%, hence the desire to get immersed in the science and practices that will influence these. Via @dairypdpw Carbon Conference 3.0

Here we go! Patrick Wood is kicking off the @dairypdpw 3rd annual Carbon Conference with C market updates. This has been a hot topic with new and evolving projects on the horizon. There’s quite a bit of interest out there in the dairy community, yet a gap in fully understanding programs asks and benefits.

Our dairy industry continues to lead by adopting additional #sustainability practices, lessening our #carbon footprint! Appreciate this tool as another one to help producers identify new practices. #dairy #nutrition

Corn plant characteristics interact with kernel processing. There's little doubt here, but the relationships aren't well understood. Appreciate Joe Lawrence reminding me of this excellent resource and work, collaboration with Allison Kerwin. @CornellCALS & @CornellProDairy have excellent resources beyond this. #dairy #nutrition #agronomy

Grain development was different this past year for some regions across the US. It's been fascinating to watch play out in @Field_Updates data across the US and globe. From East to West Coast, across Europe and beyond. Grain hardness, processing and silage & grain starch digestibility impacts the dairy and beef farming bottom line. This crop year's grain might carry better feeding potential, but is likely wide ranging given growing conditions experienced in 2024. #agronomy #dairy #nutrition #grain #digestion
