NRCS added a scenario to the 328 Practice for Conservation Crop Rotation to include alfalfa. MN, MI, ND, SD, and WI are included in the states that have adopted the practice and have released payment scenarios. Those payments range from $64.40-$77.47/acre.

Tripping an alfalfa flower is a process that releases pollen from the petal sheath. This process is usually done by bees and in the Touchet Valley, pollination can be done with alkali bees.

Hay prices were slightly lower for June hay sales according to the Hay Market Demand & Price Report for the Upper Midwest. Prime alfalfa hay averaged $207/ton for large squares, $337/ton for small squares, & $160/ton for large rounds.

Hay demand and prices were fairly steady for April. Prime alfalfa hay (greater than 151 RFV/RFQ) averaged $228/ton for large squares, $171/ton for large rounds, and $311/ton for small squares. See more at:
