Former State Rep/House GOP Leader. Conservative. Partner at CAG. Believer in assistance for people, when done right; opposed to government control.

It’s good to challenge the attitude that a person has done something wrong bc they can’t afford health insurance w/out assistance. Wagging the finger won’t change a thing. Around half of employers don’t offer group plans, let alone the self-employed. We’re a low-income state (hopefully changing). Health insurance is more expensive than ever, for a family more expensive than school tuition. There’s nothing an individual can do to make it cheaper or not need it. So the best public policy is to offer assistance through a private market w/ plan competition & no disincentives for upward mobility. Meanwhile, keep cutting the income tax, improving education & workforce development for long-term change. Every statistic in these categories has improved over the last decade. With another decade or two, we’ll have generational change. #arleg #arpx

RT @JonahDispatch: Look, I don’t mind the Harry met Sally reunion ad. But it offends me that it’s about mayo at a Jewish deli.

I’m older, but I think many commercials move too fast and try too hard. I like the slow ones. #SuperBowl

New Orleans the city has a culture without sports. When it meets with sports, both are even better. #SuperBowl

More bad info. No one was pushed to the back of a line. Expansion $ comes from a restricted federal pot through ACA, which raised taxes in AR by 600 million & cut Medicare by 500 million, plus eliminated our small business plan for workers. We can use the funds for expansion but nothing else. If congress wants to reform it can. Until then there’s only one way to recoup our money, mitigate some of the damage of ACA, and help our workers. This is just rage without focus or fact or consequences for their misleading opinions. #arleg #arpx
Arkansas’s Medicaid program has been flipped inside out. 🤯 Thanks to Obamacare’s expansion, the share of able-bodied adults on Medicaid more than doubled—while the truly vulnerable were pushed to the back of the line. #arpx #arleg

All of this is mostly funny. In fairness they did not just withdraw it. They did hereby withdraw it. Staffers and think-tankers have a lot in common.
new - Congressional Progressive Staff Association withdrew its letter on a 32-hour workweek, per release "“The Congressional Progressive Staff Association hereby withdraws its recent letter to congressional leadership on a rotating 32-hour workweek."

Pretty nice and pretty funny.
Tammy Duckworth to Rubio: "When I first got to Senate I was pregnant with my daughter and trying to change Senate rules so I could bring her onto the floor so I could do my job and vote...not accessible to wheelchairs...You came running down to me 'I'm with you! I support you!"

This is all a lie. The ABWA category is not the largest & virtually all enrollees work. The average Arkansan receives premium assistance for 2.5 years bc their income grows. They’re not bums. They’re your waiters & your yard guy & your small-business owner. #arleg
An even larger share of federal Medicaid spending goes to able-bodied adults — most of whom don’t work at all. Every dollar spent on welfare for able-bodied adults who refuse to work is a dollar unavailable to fund services for the truly needy.

I do believe it’s beyond you, but it’s not very hard. Lots of things contribute to maternal health, pre & post partum. Cultural, generational, & socio-economic. But giving poor women healthcare while they’re pregnant & after isn’t causing the problem. #arpx
Fact 1: Medicaid (read: taxpayers) pays for half the births in Arkansas. (At one point, it was closer to 2/3). Fact 2: Arkansas has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. How anyone can see these two stats and think "More Medicaid will fix the problem!" is wholly and completely beyond me. #arleg

Carter & his wife owned one house their whole life. Moved back to it after White House. Probably no one reading this would do the same, though many think they would. It’s a real sign of deeper character. Good & great are seldom the same man, but sometimes.. #arpx
President Jimmy Carter dedicated himself to public service in the Navy, as governor, and as president. He led a remarkable century-long life from the peanut farm to the White House. On behalf of all Arkansans, I extend condolences and prayers to the Carter family.
