There was a guy in line at the Egyptian this morning who forgot his pass. We told him we'd hold his place in line and he hired a cab to speed up what would have been a 40-minute round-trip walk. He returned in time to rejoin the line--in his original spot--with a round of

CITIZEN KANE (1941) for probably the 50th time. Agnes Moorehead is on-screen for ~5-10 minutes.
...and she absolutely crushes a small, but complex role. I'm always charmed by her performances.
I've seen THEY LIVE BY NIGHT (1943) at least a dozen times, and only today did I realize that the over-friendly jeweler (actor Will Lee) was also Mr. Hooper on "Sesame Street".
He was blacklisted after being an unfriendly witness during HUAC.

Sitting in the coffee shop this morning and Judy Garland’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” comes on…and I get teary-eyed.
Still think she’s one of the top 2 vocalists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
(Also, it warms my heart that classic film fans know its origin :)
Joel McCrea met his future wife Frances Dee on the set of THE SILVER CORD (1933). They’d marry later that year and remain married until his death in 1990.

DANCING LADY (1933)...trying to squeeze it in before "Godfrey"
Gable, Crawford, Tone, 3 stooges, Robert Benchley, Sterling Holloway, and a walk-on speaking role for Eve Arden. Eclectic cast!
To get around the censors, Alfred Hitchcock purposely broke up the memorable kissing scene in NOTORIOUS ('46) by having Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman discuss food, move about the apartment, and talk on the phone.
See the film next month on February 5th at 8pm ET.
it's too bad

didn't/couldn't air EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990) on Vincent Price day.
A wonderful way to end his career, and a special film to me.

Name a classic film actress (or actor) who's not a typical Hollywood beauty, but you go gaga for them when they're on-screen.
I'll go first: Una Merkel and Ann Doran

love story with marionettes and dance sequences that must be seen to be believed.
Cazale only made 5 films:
THE GODFATHER
THE CONVERSATION
THE GODFATHER: PART II
DOG DAY AFTERNOON
THE DEER HUNTER
All 5 films won or were nominated for best picture.
Cazale was never nominated.

Every day a character actor!
Not sure they'd ever do this, but I'd love to see a day of Frank McHugh films (though a Cagney day would get me most of the way there, I guess.)

It’s been a rough year for MTM fans...we lost:
Cloris Leachman (1/27)
Gavin MacLeod (5/29)
Ed Asner (8/29)
Betty White (12/31)
(Valerie Harper and Georgia Engel died in 2019, Marty Tyler Moore in 2017, Ted Knight in 1986)
Bogart & Bacall starred in four films together, here's how I think of them:
- The First One
- The One I Don't Understand
- The First-Person One
- The One I Like Best
