We are aware of the accusations currently being made by Israel against @AlJazeera journalists. Israel has a long history of smearing Palestinian journalists as terrorists without providing credible evidence, and with deadly consequences. 1/3.

So @Twitter is censoring journalist @RanaAyyub’s account in India at the behest of the authorities whom her work seeks to hold to account…Meanwhile the relentless #onlineviolence she faces largely goes unpunished.

This is the deadliest conflict for journalists that @pressfreedom has ever documented. More than 110 journalists killed by Israel since October 7. Journalists are not a target and a deliberate attack on any journalist constitutes a war crime.

We @pressfreedom are pushing for al-Attar’s immediate evacuation. He is in a critical condition and needs urgent treatment that cannot be supplied in Gaza because of the destruction by Israel of Gazan medical facilities. The US - a defender of press freedom - should urge this.
Al Jazeera cameraman Ali al-Attar was wounded in a bombing that targeted a police checkpoint near Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza, where journalists’ tents were set up. 🔴 LIVE updates:

We @IndexCensorship are seriously concerned about apparent rise in police intervention on issues of legal speech in UK, particularly apparent confusion between speech that social media platforms might choose to outlaw under their terms of service and legally permissible speech.
A thread in which the police want to know why @HarryTheOwl engages in political campaigning that might offend some transgender people. Just wow.

"We’re living through the most misogynistic period I’ve experienced. Everywhere, women are being told to shut up and sit down, or else." This is so true of social media, esp. @Twitter. It ultimately means women are bullied out of a role in the political decisions that impact them.

"A dark day for freedom of the press" indeed. @carolecadwalla ordered to pay more than £1m in court costs to businessman Arron Banks, despite a judgement ruling that her reporting was in the public interest at the time of publication. Such cost orders deter vital reporting.

Trans rights are human rights. Women’s rights are human rights. And freedom of expression is a human right. If we don’t protect freedom of speech, we can’t advocate for any of these other rights. Freedom of speech for all is essential if we are to protect *everybody’s* rights.
