Ireland's case fatality rate for Covid was 25 times higher at the beginning of February than it is today and yet masks are being mandated in primary schools from today. This latest NPHET and Government move makes no sense and it is not being done in the best interest of children

Disappointed re vote on extension of mandatory hotel quarantine. Since MHQ was introduced at end of March less than 1% of detected Covid cases in Ireland were of people in MHQ. MHQ has had a cost to individuals and our economy. I will continue to personally oppose this measure.

@FergalBowers Fergal there are more than just 2 binary positions. There are many who know Covid is real and that there is a pandemic, and know that vaccines work and public health measures are required, but also think that blunt restrictions cause harm that needs debate and weighing up by RTE

Ironic that the journalists who reported in real time, on passing of recent laws in the Oireachtas, are only now, after the event, covering the fact that those laws involved rushed legislation, guillotining of debates, and opposition amendments barely discussed, if at all.

@paulodonoghue93 So why restrictions now? Journalists need to think about the human cost of restrictions -817,000 people have been on the PUP at some stage - i.e thrown out of their jobs onto a payment that's max €18k a year. Many have families. That's a sacrifice rarely covered by journalists.

@RMcGreevy1301 One thing you might consider covering in the article is that vaccination programmes are usually not premised on 100% vaccination coverage. Rather it is enough coverage that is aimed for, in order to achieve levels of immunity that reduce population wide illness etc.
