Post 1/3🧵 Your mom collapses screaming after knee replacement. ER doc: “Policy says Tylenol only.” She’s called “hysterical,” labeled “drug seeking” (with a psych consult thrown in) while sobbing in 10/10 agony. That used to just happen to “chronic pain people.” Now it’s

Having untreated or poorly treated chronic pain is known to raise the risk of serious health problems. So it should come as no surprise that chronic pain significantly raises the risk of high blood pressure, according to a new study by the American Heart Association.

Govt intervention is leading to a deadly spiral. Docs fear prescribing what's needed. Patients who rely on pain meds to function are committing suicide out of desperation or hitting the streets for relief and getting killed by uncontrolled substances.

I don’t know one person who died after taking their legally RXd OxyContin or became an addict because of legally RXd OxyContin If you were involved in these opioid lawsuits, may you reap what you sow https://t.co/ZGYrTDbQWs

The problem is this: the Overdose Crisis is a dual problem. There is a crisis of under-treated pain and a crisis of poor access for treatment of substance use disorders. Both groups of patients need competent, compassionate medical care, but have been leveraged by many in the

The sad thing is that I feel like I've grown to appreciate the shared challenges of pain patients and people with opioid use disorders as this overdose crisis has continued. I frequently discuss that pain patients are also victims in this crackdown.

Like a typical bully, @AndrewKolodny is now claiming he's actually an innocent victim. After causing unprecedented unjust discrimination against chronic pain patients nationwide, he now pouts, "I get a lot of hate mail and threats...Most of these are people who are on opioids."

Dr. Norman Clement made some updates on the page that describes the Section 553(e) Notice to Dept of HHS. There is an A.I. video presentation that picks out the high points and does a good job of summarizing that document. I will link that in the comments, and will bookmark

Chronic pain/illness patients turn to the ER as a last refuge for relief— only to be labeled “addicts” chasing a hit. We’re just trying to survive a broken system. ERs overflow because family docs, surgeons, and pain specialists can’t refill opioids without DEA fear. ER docs get
