@zdch I think your point here is 💯and I’ve been trying to summarize it in a way that does it justice, but it really does require the full Zac Hill treatment.

@JustinWolfers @natesilver …especially in roughly the “two standard deviations away from the mean” region. As you said, he’s roughly doubling the standard errors, so these sorts of observations will come up all the time. That means his models crank up the variance to account for “outliers” that aren’t.

@sedatesnail I think a lot of people wasting their time by shooting their shot isn’t really a problem. There are issues with education, but acceptance rates aren’t a great indicator.

@sedatesnail Housing is getting worse. I don’t think it’s directly related to college acceptance rates. More people are applying to top tier universities, and that rate is far outpacing population growth.

@zdch @TheZvi Man you should see folks trying to calculate Net Promotor Scores. Results depend almost entirely on your population mix (e.g. Japanese rate almost entirely 2-4, Americans 4-5).

@sedatesnail IMO Elon actually is brilliant. His tragic flaw is that he assumes his brilliance in some areas (marketing electric vehicles) translates to everything. That, and he sees everyone disagreeing with every stupid decision he makes as a personal attack.

My proposal for the Commander tier names: 4. Elder 3. Dragon 2. Highlander 1. Classic
