So why does hybrid suck? It forces employees to live near an office (high cost areas) and doesn’t get rid of the commute. Also hiring is constrained by geography and you have to maintain underutilized office space. You get none of the advantages of remote!

San Francisco has a subculture of parking vigilantes. Frustrated with widespread illegal parking, most of all blocking sidewalks, these residents have taken it upon themselves to report vehicles to the city, often resulting in a parking ticket.

Why not go back to “normal” in an office? Think of the traditional office as a legacy technology, remote is a disruptive innovation. Remote does the job of a legacy “office” but has major advantages (no commutes, untethered hiring) that makes it both superior and less expensive.

At Yelp we made the decision to go remote-first in mid 2020. A big part of our calculus was that employees would strongly prefer cutting their commutes to nothing and happiness research backs this up

To attract retail investors their fund structure allowed people to withdraw like a mutual fund, but with more limitations. Sounds to me like this reporter got wind of an early "run on the bank", fund is saying all is well - nothing to see, but chances are all is not well. 7/7

In early 2000s Google feared IE and their ability to set search default). Google paid Firefox big $ for search default to mitigate, but there was Firefox risk. Poached key Firefox contributors to build Chrome, pushed hard w/search monopoly, unlocking browser market dominance.

Nothing would be more pro-privacy than sending searches to a privacy-focused search engine like @DuckDuckGo . Missing half the big tech privacy equation by focusing on FB.
