@Unpop_Science Thanks for this. Here is one of my students’ award winning posters on the spatial temporal distribution of snow crab in the Bering Sea if it helps- (full thesis also available online).

Addressing environmental problems at one scale sometimes means causing them at another. Rampant boosterism of renewables without life cycle analysis will alienate environmental allies @DustinMulvaney . .

The waste from nuclear is the best kind of waste. Small, manageable, controllable. Doesn’t create huge disparate impacts. We can’t pretend avoiding it makes things better. #sorrynotsorry.
Imagine spending billions of dollars to rip up every single wind turbine in the state of California. That’s basically the plan with Diablo Canyon.

@michael_germana Congrats! My first PhD adviser was absent. When I changed advisers, she was furious and said “you obviously don’t want to get your PhD.” I did. I teach at an R1 now.

In the midst of the garbage fire that is my personal life, I, um. signed my first book contact today? I am writing about Sustainable Development Goal #12- Responsible Production and Consumption. Looking forward to featuring awesome women and POC.

I was going to say stop flight-shaming because it’s a social signifier and a status symbol but it was done for me. Travel is mind-opening. Planes, at present, are problematic. Fix planes. Guilting folks for individual behavior without knowing their life is not the solution.
Of course, whether you support or oppose this tweet depends on how seriously you view the climate crisis. Personally I'd vote for a livable planet over a fossil-fueled commercial aviation system.

"Raffi turned down opportunities to commercialize [Baby Beluga] and convert it into a franchise. This reflects Raffi’s deeper concern about the well-being of children, which extends to the environment upon which they depend.".Thank you world for @Raffi_RC .

We have a world with a Raffi in it, and that’s enough to get this Monday off to a good start. Let’s go fight some fascism!.
to any MAGA followers I may have: my music and values are totally opposed to the fascist trump cult. posted #ResistFascism often in last few years. for you I’d wish a change of heart. hatred cannot lead. ever. love, respect diversity. #ChildHonouring #USandTheHolocaustPBS.

Environmentalism has a long history of justifying all kinds of terrible stuff (e.g., eugenics!) in the name of environmental problem solving. While I think @DoctorVive has good intentions here, we enviros need to be sensitive to this history and do better.
If weeks of suspended high-carbon economic activity can cut China's emissions by a quarter, I don't want to hear one fucking word about how decarbonizing quickly enough to maintain a livable planet is "unrealistic.".

Truly an honor to be named a Senior Fellow @TheBTI. They continually make me challenge my assumptions in the name of solving human and environmental problems.
Very pleased to announce our @TheBTI 2020 Senior Fellows. @paulmromer @jenn_bernstein @miriamhorn Philippe Benoit and Taishi Sugiyama.

@LRNROSE I don't believe in crystal healing, so a date told me I should learn about the relationship between nature, science and religion. I pulled a book off my shelf called "Envisioning Nature, Science, and Religion" that I contributed to. He didn't back down. Haven't spoken since.

Sorry to be that guy, but quick reminder that environmentalism never was ideologically, ethically, or pragmatically coherent (e.g, Gottleib 1993) and nor is it now (e.g, @MCNisbet 2014; and um, me).

Burdening children with our planets future and telling them an apocalypse is inevitable might create some anxiety, ya think. WE have created anxiety in kids. Not climate.
"With climate advocates’ efforts having done little more than set back their own decarbonization efforts over the last 40 years, it makes sense that they’d try on a new (and more sympathetic) face." Children. New piece from @JessicaWeinkle for @thebti Journal:

@LMalloy I always thought I should just throw the food away and then we don’t need to deal with all the dinner table time. And then I was like, I can just throw the MONEY away and skip a shopping trip.

I have been a foster for awhile now, and today I was adopted. I am *beyond* thrilled to make the a world better place with the smartest people I know (they also throw great parties-oh-wait-I-mean-conferences).
I'm extremely pleased to welcome @jenn_bernstein, @TheBTI's new academic liaison. Jenn joins us after years as a senior fellow, advisor, and contributor. True to form, she's giving a talk on nuclear at USC on her first day:.

Yep. When we romanticize agrariansim, we (unintentionally!) endorse women’s unpaid labor.
17. This reminds me of @jenn_bernstein's important argument that many forms of environmentalism that romanticize agrarian livelihoods often involve shifting more work onto women. (how much of the work of a labor-intensive agroecology would fall on women?)

I have an idea! Let’s NOT watch that documentary and instead read Dustin’s book Solar Power, which recognizes that (1) renewables have probs wrt political ecology, AND (2) they are incredibly important wrt decarbonization!.
Sorry folks. It was not my recipe. Someone told me that's how its made. My rocks didn't even melt. I must need a commercial scale oven. I hope I didn't ruin any of your pans!!. Wife is mad about the odors. MY MISTAKE FOR WATCHING MICHAEL MOORE!.*injects disinfectant in eyes*.
